Dissecting the Mock Interview, Fri., June 17 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Workforce Education Office (ground floor of 5000 Building).
Our very own Career Navigator, Tiffany Lamoreaux will lead the discussion as we role play our way through a typical interviewing process. We’ll explore the questions a job seeker can count on, along with how to handle surprises – with you as critics. Would be great to have a few of you on hand for your experience and insights. Served up of course with the usual coffee and treats, compliments of Central Market.

ORCA cards are now only $100 for Shoreline Community College students
Informed by the Transportation Survey that SCOF did in February 2016 the Shoreline Community College 2015-2016 SCOF committee has decided to lower the cost of the subsidized ORCA card for students to $100 from $125.
As affordable transportation is a major focus of the committee and of great interest to students, the committee is also pursuing other possibilities for students, including working with the Transit Riders Union to petition King County Metro to offer a reduced fare to all community college students. (Think that’s a good idea? Sign the petition here!)
In the short term, SCOF is also working with the Transit Riders Union to make it easier for students who qualify to transfer the ORCA card to ORCA LIFT, an income-based reduced fare card.
How can you sign up for your subsidized ORCA card?
Head to the Cashier’s office on the main floor of the FOSS (5000) building and purchase your $200 ORCA pass for only $100! (Be sure to bring your current Shoreline Community College ID with you.)
How can you save even more $ on ORCA by signing up for ORCA LIFT?
*After purchasing your ORCA card from the Cashier’s office, head to the PUB lobby Mon., June 20 and Wed., June 22 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. where a representative from Orca-to-Go will be on campus to see if you qualify for a low-income rider fare called ORCA LIFT. If you qualify, the Orca-to-Go rep will be able to transfer the money from your Shoreline-issued ORCA card to the LIFT card right then and there, on-site! (Bring your photo ID and your EBT card, Provider One card, DSHS award letter, unemployment award letter, or two recent pay stubs as proof of qualification.)
*Even if you are not buying an ORCA pass from the Shoreline Cashier’s office, it is worth signing up for ORCA LIFT to get a 50% discount on your King County bus rides. Low-income students who can provide an EBT (food stamp) card, Provider One card, unemployment letter, two recent pay stubs or other proof of your income can sign up for ORCA LIFT in the PUB and get a new ORCA card that you can load with money later!
When you combine ORCA LIFT with your student subsidized ORCA card, the savings add up!
So, to recap:
Step 1: Head to the Cashier’s office and get your ORCA card at a steep discount.
Step 2: Swing by the PUB lobby June 20 & 22 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to see if you qualify for even more savings with ORCA LIFT.
Step 3: Sign the petition here to get King County Metro to offer a reduced fare to all community college students.
Step 4: Ride transit with ease and a bit more coin in your pocket.

Shoreline Community College will adjust to summer public operating hours starting Mon., June 20 through Fri., Sept. 2.
Starting on June 20, the official college hours of business will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Thurs. On Fridays, the hours will be 8 a.m. to Noon. The campus will close at Noon on Fridays for public and student services, so please plan your on-campus needs accordingly.
On Sept. 5, following the Labor Day holiday, the campus will return to the regular schedule, which is 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. and 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

“Reconciling Risk and Suspending Belief”

The Oso Landslide Project is a time-based photo documentary project that began prior to the devastating landslide of March, 2014. Eidenberg-Noppe, a hydrologist and photographer, documented the area in April 2012, March 2013, June and November of 2014, and September 2015. The collection includes large-scale panoramic photographs of a dramatically altered landscape, as well as detailed images capturing the personal effects of this powerful and tragic event. An essay about the project titled: “Reconciling Risk and Suspending Belief” is published on www.medium.com.

The 26th annual Shoreline Arts Festival is Sat., June 25 & Sun., June 26, and is a free, two-day festival featuring music, dance, theater, art exhibitions, hands-on art activities, cultural rooms, food, and more that is organized by the Shoreline – Lake Forest Park Arts Council. A fun time for all, here’s how you can participate:
Show your art!
Submit your art to be showcased in the Arts Festival Juried 2D/3D Art & Juried Photography show. But hurry – the deadline for registration is June 19!
Volunteer!
The Arts Council is still looking for volunteers to help before, after, and at the festival. Join the veritable army of volunteers who make this celebration of the arts possible and get a glimpse “backstage” as we entertain 10,000+ art-loving community members over two days.
Volunteers are needed for a wide range of tasks, with shifts ranging from two hours to all-day, so there’s something for every skill level and any amount of availability. Sign up now on VolunteerSpot.
Attend and enjoy the fun!
Check out the artist marketplace, dance and musical performances, food trucks galore, a performance by Missoula Children’s Theater, cultural rooms, arts and crafts stations, and more!
And, you can even avoid the stress of parking by taking the Free Arts Festival Shuttle (provided by Shoreline Community College!). The shuttle will run in a loop stopping at Meridian Park, Cromwell Park, and the Shoreline Center every 15 minutes during festival hours (Saturday, June 25 10am-6pm and Sunday, June 26 10am-5pm).

As of Mon, June 13, student ID cards can be obtained in the Bookstore, located on the bottom floor of the PUB (9000 building). This is a permanent change, and ID cards are no longer available from the Library.
For students, a copy of their current class schedule and evidence of photo identification (passport, drivers license, etc.) remain the standards for obtaining a new ID card, updating a current one, or replacing a lost one.
