Registration for winter quarter begins Mon., Nov. 16! To prepare for the occasion, on Monday and Tuesday Nov. 9 & 10 general advisors will be available to talk with students about:
• Locating your SID and PIN
• Determining your assigned registration date
• Reviewing Educational Plan for next quarter’s course selection
• Previewing the Class Schedule of course offerings
• Creating a potential schedule
• Understanding pre-requisites for course selections
• Learning about payment options and financial aid
On Mon., Nov., 9: Advisors will have a table set up in the PUB lobby from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
On Tues., Nov. 10: Advisors will be available to meet with students on a drop-in basis in the counseling center, room 5229 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Shoreline Community College is sponsoring Drybones Artist Collective’s production entitled, “RESTART” (A dance show to benefit the Recovery Cafe.) Through the medium of dance, this show explores the human struggle to break free from addictions and other destructive behaviors, and the journey toward healing.
This show features the choreography of professional dancers Megan Becker, Katy Hagelin, Victoria Gutierrez, and Angela Robinson.
25% of ticket sales will be donated to support the Recovery Cafe, a “recovery support center utilizing a therapeutic community model to support women and men who are seeking a life of transformation, free from drugs, alcohol and other addictions.” (www.recoverycafe.org ).

Time: 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7:00)

$15.00 general admission

Bob Hutchinson’s expressionistic landscape and seascape paintings explore the dynamics of gesture, color and form. They reference nature and sometimes, specific locations. The varying degrees of abstraction in Hutchinson’s work reference his influences, such as Hiroshige, Howard Hogkins, Richard Diebenkorn, Emil Nolde and Wolf Kahn.

Join us this Thurs., Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208) for a talk on the complex relationship between Guatemala and the U.S. by John Hamilton, U.S. Ambassador (retired).
Guatemala has a complex national identity: more than 40% of the population is indigenous Maya, 73% of whom live in poverty, many in extreme poverty. It also has a complicated relationship with other countries, especially the United States, often characterized as “close but strained.”
During the second half of the 20th century, it experienced a variety of military and civilian governments, as well as a 36-year guerrilla war. In 1996, the government signed a set of peace agreements formally ending the internal conflict, which had left more than 200,000 people dead and had created, by some estimates, about 1 million refugees.
The 1996 peace accords removed a major obstacle to foreign investment, and since then Guatemala has pursued important political and military reforms and macroeconomic stabilization. The Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) entered into force in July 2006, spurring increased investment and diversification of exports, with the largest increases in ethanol and non-traditional agricultural exports. At the same time, it has experienced high rates of criminal violence, drug trafficking and substantial out-migration, including by unaccompanied minors.

This Wed., Nov. 4, Shoreline’s campus will be hosting the Shoreline Rotary Club meeting from 7-8:30 a.m. About 40 extra cars will be on campus at this time, parking in areas between the PUB lot and the 1300 building. Leave yourself extra time to get around campus and find parking on this day.
This is the first of four weekly meetings the Rotary will be holding on campus through the month of November. They will meet from 7-8:30 a.m. in the PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208) every Wednesday on November 4, 11, 18 and 25. Leave yourself extra time to find parking on these days.
