Bob Hutchinson’s expressionistic landscape and seascape paintings explore the dynamics of gesture, color and form. They reference nature and sometimes, specific locations. The varying degrees of abstraction in Hutchinson’s work reference his influences, such as Hiroshige, Howard Hogkins, Richard Diebenkorn, Emil Nolde and Wolf Kahn.

The first Wednesday of each month is Spirit Day, a chance to show our Phin Pride across campus. This upcoming Spirit Day (Nov. 4) is also our top-ranked Women’s Volleyball team’s HOME game against Skagit Valley Community College. So we’re celebrating in style!
This Spirit Day (Nov. 4), please join us in celebrating Shoreline by wearing Phin Gear on campus. Don’t have any? Shoreline students get a 20% discount on Phin gear and apparel at the bookstore on Spirit Days! So go grab some gear and show off your school pride.
To get the party started, the SLC will have a table in front of the gym (3000 bldg) from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and will be handing out treats, playing music, dancing and having a great time – swing by and join them and help spread the PhinNation Spirit!
Then, head to the gym at 7 p.m. and PACK THE STANDS to cheer on our Phins volleyball team, who are currently ranked #1 in the North Region! #GoPhins!
Athletic Director Steve Eskridge will host a short program honoring this year’s sophomores as well as recognizing past alumni in attendance. After the ceremony, let the games begin!
Ready for even more fun?! Between the second and third match, spectators will be invited to come on down to the court and ROAR for your Phins! What does that mean? A dance party at center court, of course! #PhinStyle

Perform in a fully-staged and costumed opera and scenes with orchestra. Opera Workshop 2016 has wonderful opportunities for solo and ensemble singing and is open to those with little or a lot of singing experience.
The Opera Workshop Performances will be February 19-21, 2016, with auditions being held Thur., Nov. 5 and Thurs., Nov. 12. For the past forty-six years this workshop has provided training and basic stage and performance experience for aspiring young singers and actors, while giving them the opportunity to earn college credit. We are also looking for students who are interested in tech work to assist in the production. Students can get musical theater performance credits, drama credits or stage technical credits. Auditions are open to the community, but everyone involved in the production must register for some type of Shoreline Community College course.

This Wed., Nov. 4 Seattle’s Raging Grannies are holding a film screening and performance on Shoreline’s campus to promote global peace, justice, and social and economic equality by raising public awareness through the medium of song and humor. Hosted by the Student Leadership Center, the event takes place in the PUB Quiet Dining Room from 12:30-3 p.m. (film showing 12:30-2 p.m., Grannies performance 2-3 p.m.)
What Are the Raging Grannies Raging About? They are enraged about the poor conditions that people are forced to endure in their lives, and about the condition of the earth that will be left to our precious grandchildren. They sing out to gain respect for all persons and encourage everyone to grow above their prejudices. They rage against “corporate greed” and sign for “one world” in which justice is evident everywhere and peace reigns.

Join the Global Affairs Center this Wed., Nov. 4 in the PUB Quiet Dining Room from 11:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. for a talk on Women and Social Protest.
• What role do women play in politics?
• What prompts women to organize on behalf of unpopular causes?
• How are women themselves changed by personal experiences of political activism?

It is recommended that Shoreline Community College students have an educational plan on file. An educational plan is like a roadmap for how to complete the degree requirements found in the program planning guides. Join us Wed., Nov. 4 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in room 1301 for a workshop to help you make sure you’re planning for your AA-DTA Transfer degree correctly. In this session, students who intend to complete a transfer degree will learn:
- Where to locate planning guides
- The degree requirements for the program of study
- The importance of taking math and English early
- How previous coursework could be used
- To consider other life commitments like finances, work and family
- Specific course recommendations for four-year colleges
- Why to review a completed educational plan often

This Wed., Nov. 4, Shoreline’s campus will be hosting the Shoreline Rotary Club meeting from 7-8:30 a.m. About 40 extra cars will be on campus at this time, parking in areas between the PUB lot and the 1300 building. Leave yourself extra time to get around campus and find parking on this day.
This is the first of four weekly meetings the Rotary will be holding on campus through the month of November. They will meet from 7-8:30 a.m. in the PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208) every Wednesday on November 4, 11, 18 and 25. Leave yourself extra time to find parking on these days.
