Shoreline’s DECA team competed in International Career Development Conference in Washington DC


Shoreline DECA students returned this week after competing at the International Career Development Conference held in Washington DC April 10-15. The team continues the longstanding tradition of Shoreline DECA students making it to finals in the international business competition. Participants included 600 college students from universities such as Rutgers, University of Wisconsin – Madison, Texas A&M, Seattle University, and the University of Massachusetts – Cambridge.

Additionally, Shoreline’s DECA chapter was the only chapter in Washington to earn the Leadership Passport Award. Earning the award required all chapter members to volunteer in their community and actively participate in a wide range of campus activities.

Below is a list of finalists as well as those who competed at the international level:
Euginia Wong & Davira Shaffena – Top 10 in Financial Statement Analysis
Tina Tang & Sylvia Pan – Marketing Communications
Hailey Leung –Advertising Campaign
Madeline Kimberley –Human Resource Management

Others competing include Anna Vu, Amro Habash, Yorin Anggari, Gary Wu, Krittawat Pattaramekanon, Mary Chen, Xiaohu Shangguan, and Reilly Kemp-Bye.

Collegiate DECA prepares future leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. There are 15,000 Collegiate DECA members on 275 college and university campuses around the world. This year’s DECA team includes members from the US, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Jordan, and Thailand.

All students are welcome to join DECA, regardless of major. An information session will be held May 23 at 11:30 am in 1104. Fall Kick-off will take place the first Tuesday after classes resume in Fall quarter. Faculty Advisors are Ailsa Kellam, Kyle Winslow, Matt Lothyan, and Stephen McCloskey.
