Do you want to be part of a dynamic learning community while satisfying General Education course requirements?

This spring quarter, we’re excited to bring back Interdisciplinary Studies!

Photo of a building with Asian architecture along with thumbnail photos of the two instructors.

What is Interdisciplinary Studies?
With Interdisciplinary Studies, two courses and two instructors come together in a single classroom to explore a common theme, allowing you to earn 10 credits and satisfy requirements in two subject areas.

What is the theme this spring?
Asia Unmasked: Traditions, Revolutions, and Secrets.

We’ll explore the art, philosophy and revolutions of China, Korea, and Japan. Through historical documents, cinema, and fiction, we will examine multiple perspectives such as how Confucianism, Buddhism, and native religions were used to both enlighten and to rule over the common people.

How do I register?
Visit the Asia Unmasked website. There you will find additional details as well as links to register for the classes. Not sure if these courses are suitable for your program of study? Please check with your advisor before registering.

We wanted to let you know that the student ID card machine is about to shut down for the quarter. If you haven’t had a chance to get a student ID card yet, you still have one more chance this winter quarter.

Current students can get ID cards made February 10th-12th between 8:30am – 4:30pm. Just stop by the FOSS Welcome Desk (5000 Building) to pick up a number and get in line to take your photo!

Please come prepared with your ctcLink number and your Photo ID (such as a drivers license or passport).

FAQs:

After next week’s, when will the next ID card event be?
The schedule is still being finalized, but it will always be a few weeks into each new quarter. The next event will be posted to the calendar on the website and on the ID Card page as soon as the dates are finalized.

What happens if I lose my ID card mid-quarter?
You’ll need to pay a replacement fee to the cashier ($10) and show your receipt when you come to get a new one printed. If you aren’t in a rush, you can come on one of the next quarter’s ID card event days to get a new one. If you need a new card more urgently you can email navigate@shoreline.edu to set up an appointment.

If you have any questions, please email navigate@shoreline.edu.

Dear Students,

Last night The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) sent a memo announcing a temporary pause on all federal grants and loans, effective today at 2:00pm PST/5:00pm EST.

We do not have a lot of details to share at this time, but we just received confirmation that Title IV student aid is exempt from the OMB memo pausing funding. Title IV includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG grant, Federal Work Study and Federal student loans. All other federal aid outside of Title IV is still unclear. Washington State aid programs which include Washington College Grant, Washington Bridge Grant, College Bound Scholarship, Passport to Careers, Opportunity Grant and State Work Study are also not impacted at this time.

We are closely monitoring the situation to understand the full scope of its impact on our students, staff, and institutional operations.

Please know that we are already taking steps to address this issue. Our leadership team is in direct communication with state and federal partners, including the offices of Sen. Patty Murray and other advocates in Congress, to urge clarity and advocate for resuming funding as quickly as possible.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

We know this news may bring uncertainty, and we want you to know that we are here for you. Your education and well-being are at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to update you as we receive more information.

Sincerely,

Ryan Aiello
Vice President of Student Services
Shoreline Community College

Recently, notice went out of a class action settlement in a case involving Shoreline Community College. Because some of you may have received this notification, we wanted to provide you with some information.

On March 20, 2023, Shoreline Community College experienced a cybersecurity incident that impacted campus functions. During the investigation of that incident, we confirmed that documents involved in the incident included personal information of our students, staff, and faculty. We notified those individuals in April 2023.

In January 2024, a class action lawsuit was filed against the College arising out of the March 2023 cybersecurity incident. Following mediation in June 2024, the parties agreed to settle the claims in the lawsuit. Some of you may have already received notice about this settlement.  Notices are being sent via U.S. Mail and/or email to all class members.

Shoreline Community College is not in charge of the administration of this process. If you would like information about the settlement, please visit the settlement administration website at www.ShorelineSettlement.com.

All of us at Shoreline Community College take our responsibility to protect the privacy and security of the personal information entrusted to us seriously. We have taken and continue to take steps to enhance the security of our systems and safeguard the data we maintain.
