Here are the events happening around campus for the week of Mon., Jan. 15. Make sure to check out the many events celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. week.

Tues., Jan. 16

MLK Jr. Week Service Project: off-campus at Mary’s Place
Join us as we honor MLK Jr. by serving our community. We will be volunteering at Mary’s Place from 9am-3pm (2-hour shifts). Mary’s Place provides housing, employment, and wellness resources for women and families experiencing homelessness in Seattle. For more information and to sign up.

Orca LIFT and Orca-to-Go Sign-Ups: PUB Lobby Info Desk
Wed., Jan. 17: 10am-2pm

Save money on your bus fare with Orca LIFT. Pay half-price every time you ride, if you are low income. Come to the PUB to sign up at the Welcome Desk January 17 and 24 only. Bring your photo ID and evidence of your income, like an EBT (food) card, Provider One card, DSHS award letter, unemployment award letter, or two recent pay stubs. If you already have an Orca card, get the value loaded onto a LIFT card and start saving!

MLK Jr. Week Keynote Speaker Nikkita Oliver: PUB 9208
Wed., Jan. 17: 12:30-2:30pm
Nikkita Oliver is an organizer, educator, teaching-artist, and attorney. She has been actively involved in social justice movements including Black Lives Matter and No Youth Jail. In 2015, she received the Artist Human Rights Leader Award from the City of Seattle for her artist and activist work. Last year, Oliver ran for Mayor with the Peoples Party of Seattle–a collection of community and civic leaders, lawyers, artists, activists, and teachers.

University of Washington Seattle applications for summer and fall 2018 are due Feb 15. Come to this session to learn about the parts of the application, how to create an application account, ask your questions, and learn about resources to help you.

MLK Jr. Week BSU Open Mic: PUB, 2nd floor
Thurs., Jan. 18: 12:30-2:30pm
Inspired by MLK Jr.’s work and legacy, this open mic invites the campus community to collectively explore and critically think about social justice through artistic expression.
