Here are the events happening around campus for the week of May 21. This week is Sunfest, Shoreline’s annual almost-end-of-year celebration put on by Student Life, as well as the opening week of SIFF at Shoreline.

A representative from Dale Turner YMCA will be on campus to discuss career options for summer.

Financial Aid Workshop: Workforce Ed Computer Lab (5101)

Come get free help filling out your FAFSA.

Sunfest 2018: Amazing Race: PUB Courtyard
Tues., May 22: 11am-1pm
Feeling Amazing? Come out and play the Amazing Race! This competition incorporates small games, solving clues, and having tons of fun throughout the campus. Study Skills Bootcamp: PUB 9202
Tues., May 22: 12:30-1:30pm
This workshop will focus on academic power moves for notetaking, reading, and studying.

SCC Concert Band – Folk Songs Concert: Off-site at Shorewood HS
Tues. May 22: 7-9pm
The Shoreline Community College Concert Band is hosting a collaborative band concert at Shoreline High School Performance Theater on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 7:00pm. The concert features special guest Staff Sergeant Will Samson of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, the Einstein Middle School Wind Ensemble directed by Mariko Lane, and the UW Campus Band. This concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.

Shorewood High School is at 17300 Fremont Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133.

Sunfest 2018: Gameday: Rock River (East of the 1500 Bldg)
Wed., May 23: 11am-2pm
It’s a great day to be outside. Climb the rock wall, play the giant twister game, participate in activities created by our clubs, enjoy the music and food trucks, and have tons of fun. It’s SunFest!

Volunteer drop-in at campus garden: Deep Roots Garden, by 2600/2700 buildings
Wed., May 23: 1-2pm
Drop in and help out at the Deep Roots Community Garden located next to the 2600 building. Come for the whole hour or only 15 minutes. It will feel good to do some tending, weeding, planting, and growing. Volunteers check in at the Greenhouse. Gloves and tools provided.

Multilingual/Multicultural Job Fair: PUB Main Dining Room

All students are welcome to meet 30-40 local employers at the third annual Multilingual/Multicultural Job Fair. Bring your resume, if you have one, and talk to hiring managers who seek a diverse workforce. Whether you want a part-time job now, or contacts for later, this is a great opportunity. The best time to come will be after 11:30am, when there will be less of a crowd. Check it out! Sponsored by Workforce Education and Transitional Studies in collaboration with King County WorkSource.

Sunfest 2018: Bands and More: PUB Courtyard
Thurs., May 24: 11am-1pm
Join various performers as they showcase their talents. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Lipsync Battle and win prizes. We will have free food and giveaways!

Benefits Hub: Credit Scores & Credit Building Workshop: PUB 9202
Thurs., May 24: 12:30-1:30pm
Lunch Provided. Make your credit score work for you! Students will learn how to view their credit score and credit report for free and gain effective strategies for fixing and improving their credit.

Annual Club Awards with guest performers Funk & Groove: PUB Main Dining Room
Thurs., May 24: 6-8pm
Join us for the Annual Club Awards Ceremony! This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. We’ll have catered dinner and desserts, a photo booth, and door prizes for audience members. And Funk & Groove, Shoreline’s own fun, funk band, will perform!

Student Afternoon Recital: Music Bldg, Rm 818
Fri., May 25: 12:30-1:30pm
The Student Afternoon Recital features our dedicated music students at Shoreline Community College who are enrolled in private music instruction. This is their time to shine in the spotlight and to have an opportunity to perform in front of their peers. Students are chosen by their private music instructors to perform at the recital.

This is an invaluable experience for students to build confidence musically through focused preparation, and the opportunity to perform in front of an audience helps them develop their stage presence. Everyone is welcome to attend this free concert in the Music Building in Room #818.

SIFF 2018 Opening Night Benefit Party: Campus Theater, Bldg 1600 
Fri., May 25: 5:30-10pm
Please join us on Friday, May 25, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. for wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, a meet and greet, and the screening of our Opening Night film, On Chesil Beach. (Film starts at 7pm.) Purchase tickets here.

$50 for general public; $45 for staff, students, emeriti, and members of the Alumni & Friends Elite Alumni

Tickets include the wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, film screening, and great photo ops during the meet and greet. Proceeds benefit the Performing Arts and Digital Filmmaking Scholarship awarded to students each year by the Shoreline Community College Foundation. ($20 of the ticket price is tax deductible).

About the opening night film: On Chesil Beach is directed by Dominic Cooke and stars three-time Academy Award-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan and rising star Billy Howle as young newlyweds whose honeymoon becomes a comedy of errors in a funny and heartbreaking period drama about the fragility of human relationships.
