Shoreline Community College’s Communications & Marketing Department is looking for a part-time Social Media Assistant (up to 17 hours per week).

Job description:
Under direct supervision of the communications consultant and other marketing department staff, the social media assistant will schedule content for approval for Shoreline Community College’s social media channels, ensuring content is up to date, brand focused, and follows best practices.

In conjunction with the communications consultant, the social media assistant will respond to questions, concerns, and comments received via social channels, and will seek out ways to engage with and grow the college’s social following. The position will assist with campus event photography/videography, and will assist, as needed, in the creation of graphics, photos, and videos for distribution on social channels.

Job Duties:

  1. Schedule content to the college’s social media channels including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  2. Monitor community comments and conversations happening on social and respond as appropriate
  3. Create engaging written, graphic, and video content for social that promotes audience interaction and participation
  4. Take photos/video at campus events with an eye for social distribution, and upload photos to a digital resource management system
  5. Use photo-editing software to do basic photo editing and manipulation
  6. Other office duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Working knowledge of and comfort with all major social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Knowledge of or ability to learn emerging social channels, such as Snapchat.
  2. Skill in writing, editing, and proofreading with a clear communication style, proper grammar, and the ability to adopt and emulate the College’s voice.
  3. Basic working knowledge of and comfort level with photography equipment.
  4. Knowledge of photo editing software for basic photo manipulation.
  5. Knowledge of or ability to learn a social media scheduling tool, such as SproutSocial, Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.
  6. Ability to take direction but to also self-motivate and self-direct as needed
  7. Detail oriented

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
High school graduation or equivalent AND 1-2 years of professional social media or photography experience.

This is a part-time (up to 17 hours per week), non-benefitted position at a pay rate of $13.60 an hour. This is NOT a work-study position, and applicants DO NOT have to qualify for work-study assistance. Schedule can be flexible, but all work must be completed on-site at Shoreline Community College between the hours of 8am-4:30pm, M-F.
