Many students and employees across the nation’s college campuses continue to feel a heightened sense of fear and concern for their safety in the shifting political climate.
I want to reassure every Shoreline student, staff, and faculty member that the College is steadfast in our commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive place. We are committed to upholding a culture of free expression, as well as maintaining a supportive and respectful learning environment for all.
As stated in our Community Standard, we do not tolerate hateful, violent, or discriminatory actions that target any person or group based on their beliefs, customs, identity, or affiliations.
I also want to affirm that our students’ education records — including information regarding immigration status — are protected by federal privacy laws. Our institution has no legal obligation or affirmative duty to enforce federal immigration law; that is the responsibility of federal law enforcement agencies.
This means we do not request immigration documentation except as needed to determine the eligibility of resident tuition rates. We do not make admissions decisions about students based on immigration status, nor do our campus security detain or question people based on suspicion of undocumented status.
