Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 16th, from 9:00am-11:00am, the automotive department will be deploying airbags in the track & field area. They expect to have one loud boom every 15 minutes during this period. The airbags must be deployed prior to being disposed. Please do not call 911. If you have any questions, please contact Campus Security at 206-546-4633.

Dear Campus Community,
Early this morning, 08/15/2023, Campus Security was alerted by Shoreline Police that a suspect was in possession of stolen keys to Bldg. 7000 Campus Living was considered armed and dangerous, and possibly headed to campus. As Campus Security arrived at Bldg. 7000 Campus Living, they received a call stating that the caller believed the suspect was in the building. The suspect was then seen exiting the building and leaving campus. Campus Security immediately notified Shoreline Police who responded. Campus Security then set up and maintained constant observation of Bldg. 7000 Campus Living to ensure that the suspect did not attempt to return.
A short time later, Shoreline Police updated Campus Security, stating that the suspect was believed to be in the vicinity of N 160th Street and Aurora Avenue N and that a search was underway. Campus Security maintained their position around Bldg. 7000 Campus Living until Shoreline Police stated that the suspect was confirmed to have fled the city. Shoreline Police also confirmed that the keys to Bldg. 7000 Campus Living had been recovered and returned to the owner. Out of an abundance of caution, Campus Security maintained a constant presence at Bldg. 7000 Campus Living until 5:00 AM.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Campus Security for their prompt response to this incident, and their continued dedication to protecting and serving our campus.

Good morning!
I hope that you all had a great weekend. I am writing to remind you that Representative Shelley Kloba is visiting campus this afternoon- Monday August 7, 2023, from 12:00-2:00.
We plan to give Representative Kloba a brief tour of campus sharing stories of the wonderful work we do here, followed by an opportunity to meet in person with members of the campus community at the Quiet Dining Room in the PUB at 1:00. Community members will have a chance to ask questions and engage in thoughtful dialogue allowing her to learn more about our needs as a College and giving us a chance to explore ways we can support her in her role.
Representative Kloba was elected to her first term in the State House of Representatives in 2016, where she now serves as, Chair of the Commerce & Gaming Committee as well as on the Rural Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources and Capital Budget committees. The all-campus fire evacuation drill for Thursday, August 3rd, has been canceled. Campus Living will still be conducting their evacuation drill, but no other buildings are scheduled.
The all-campus fire evacuation drill has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 5th. The exact time of the drill will not be disclosed.

Lawn gnomes have invaded Shoreline and are on the loose around campus! Student Life is asking all students to help us round up this whimsical wanderers. Locate a lawn gnome and bring it to the Student Life Office (PUB 9301) between 7/31 and 8/11 and you could win a goodie bag, SCC swag, gift cards, and more! Limit 1 prize per student.

Cybersecurity Advisory
Shoreline Community College (SCC) has received notice from two of our third-party vendors, the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA), that a cybersecurity incident involving a third-party software tool (MOVEit) may have exposed personally identifiable information of current and prior students and employees.
The MOVEit Transfer tool is a widely used filesharing application used by many businesses, organizations, and higher education institutions worldwide. Many of these organizations could be impacted by this event. It is important to note that SCC does not use the MOVEit software, though these third-party service providers do.
Shoreline Community College shares student enrollment data with the NSC. Some of the data shared with the Clearinghouse includes personally identifiable information. At this time, we do not know the extent of the data security breach. However, we continue to keep in contact with NSC and TIAA to monitor the situation and will immediately notify the individuals who have been impacted to the best of our ability. The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges has advised us that ctcLink has not been affected, as this incident is localized to the third-party vendors. We also know that this is unrelated to the previous ransomware incident Shoreline Community College experienced at the end of March.
National Student Clearinghouse
The National Student Clearinghouse is a nonprofit organization that provides educational reporting, data exchange, and verification services to more than 3,600 colleges and universities nationwide. SCC works with the clearinghouse for a variety of purposes including enrollment and degree verification services and student loan reporting requirements. Data provided to the National Student Clearinghouse includes personally identifiable information and education records. The National Student Clearinghouse has posted details about this incident on its website.
TIAA
TIAA is a financial organization that offers investment and insurance services to employees working in the academic, research, medical, governmental, and cultural fields. SCC provides names, addresses, dates of birth, and social security numbers for those employees who choose to participate in TIAA services. What Does This Mean for You?
The safety and security of our students, staff, and faculty is our top priority, and we remain committed to thoroughly assessing any potential impacts. This cyber breach did not impact Shoreline Community College’s network or internal systems.
If you have been affected by this breach, we will contact you in the coming weeks as soon as we obtain specific details from the NSC as to who was affected and what information was accessed. However, if you are concerned or have reason to believe that your personal information has been compromised, we would like to remind you that SCC is still offering free one-year credit monitoring through Experian® IdentityWorks℠ Credit 3B. This product helps detect possible misuse of your personal information and provides you with identity protection services focused on immediate identification and resolution of identity theft. IdentityWorks Credit 3B is completely free to you and enrolling in this program will not hurt your credit score. In order to enroll in IdentityWorks℠, please contact Experian’s customer care team at 800-913-7048 or visit WWW.EXPERIANIDWORKS.COM/3BCREDIT and provide engagement number B090237 and enrollment code XCY2SWXCZ2.
The deadline to enroll has been extended to August 1, 2023.
