“Urinetown: The Musical,” a Shoreline Community College production, will be performed October 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16. Charles Enlow will be the producer and musical director.
Auditions will be held on August 10, 11, and 12 between 6:30-9:30 p.m. with callbacks being held Friday, August 12 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Come prepared to perform a short musical theater excerpt that shows your skills as a singer, as well as a short (1 minute) monologue. Please, audition not to exceed 3 minutes.
TO SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION, please go to the auditions page and sign up for a five-minute slot. You will receive a confirmation email confirming your audition time.
We are also looking for students who are interested in tech work to assist in the production.
Students can get musical theater performance credits, drama credits, or stage technical credits. Auditions are open to the community, but everyone involved in the production must register for some type of Shoreline Community College course.

EVACUATION DRILL OF 2500 BUILDING – AUG. 9, 2016
Learning what to do in the event of an emergency save lives. Many employees and some students have completed the Get Ready Take Action – All-Hazards Emergency Preparedness Training, either in person or online. Many have viewed the posted training videos for a violent event in progress, or completed additional courses such as Incident Command 100 and 200 for Higher Education. Some have created small emergency kits for their car or workspace. As a community, we continue to strive towards being prepared to face an emergency event.

The goal of a training exercise is to ensure that in the event of a true emergency, our campus members feel confident in how to respond. While this may be a brief disruption in our day, the value of practicing what to do and where to go is immeasurable.
With that in mind, we will have a scheduled an Evacuation Exercise of the 2500 Building on Tues., Aug. 9, 2016. The intent of the exercise is to practice the quick evacuation of both levels.
When the alarm sounds on Aug. 9, safely and quickly exit the 2500 Building and proceed to the nearest evacuation site. Signage outside the 2500 Building will indicate we are conducting a training exercise.
Please share this information with occupants of the building and the nearby building 2900 Building, where the Pacific Science Center has a children’s event taking place. We will not be evacuating Building 2900.
While this is a practice exercise, we anticipate Building 2500’s occupants to fully evacuate. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. We plan to exercise additional buildings each quarter. We are pleased to announce that Shoreline Community College students, alumni, and employees now have access to the free financial literacy resource SALT. This online program provides students with advice on paying for college, tips for making smarter money decisions, simple budgeting tools, advice on finding scholarships, and more. But you don’t have to be a student to benefit; anyone can take advantage of the program to help manage their existing student loan debt or to increase their financial IQ in general.
Launched on Shoreline’s campus in summer 2016, SALT is a free resource aimed at improving financial literacy overall and empowering everyone to better understand, manage, and ultimately pay off student debt.

Terra Staffing employment specialist and recruiter, Sarah Hoffman will join the conversation at Shoreline Community College’s Job Seekers’ Roundtable this Thurs., Aug. 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the PUB 9202. Sarah will impart details about Terra, what you might expect during a placement interview, and who’s hiring. Word is that office staffing companies are at the very least even with requests for workers and numbers of workers to be hired. So it’s a strong possibility that if you need something fast in the temp or temp-to-perm sphere, Terra could be your last stop.
Please bring your resume – and that cover letter we polished up last week to the PUB 9202 from 1-2:30 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to get placed! As always, coffee and light refreshments are on hand, compliments of Central Market.

Dear Students,
We are deeply saddened to learn that Jake Long, a member of our Shoreline family, was one of the three victims of the fatal Mukilteo shooting this past weekend. Jake worked as an employee of Lancer Hospitality on campus and was known by many as a bright and friendly staff member who specialized in making delicious wraps and sandwiches with care for our community each day.
Students, staff, and faculty are invited to join a brief community gathering tomorrow (Aug 2) at 12:30 p.m. in the PUB lobby in remembrance of Jake.
Counseling is available this week to speak with any students who may need grief support. The Counseling Center is located in the FOSS Building in Room 5229. A 24-hour Crisis Line is available to students after hours at 866-427-4747.
President Roberts said, “As a treasured member of our Shoreline community, Jake’s passing is a terrible tragedy. The administration and counselors will do all we can to support students and employees who may be grieving this tremendous loss. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all who are affected by this senseless shooting.”

Age discrimination is alive and well in the U.S., but there are strategies mature job seekers can employ to improve their chances of overcoming it. Please join the discussion this Thursday as we address unspoken biases, making the best out of veiled ageist lines of interview questioning, looking the part, and fighting the fear!
