2015-2016 Exceptional Faculty Award
2015-2016 Classified Star of the Year Award
2015-2016 Administrator of the Year Award
Any Shoreline Community College administrator, alumni, classified employee, faculty member, foundation board member, student, or trustee may nominate an eligible faculty member (or group of faculty members), classified employee, or administrator for consideration to their respective award category.
These awards will be presented during the Fall Convocation.
Please note that each award has separate submission instructions, nomination forms, and deadlines, which are detailed below.

Please submit your nominations to Veronica Zura at vzura@shoreline.edu by Friday, June 10, 2016. Faculty may also apply for this award directly.

One World, Many Songs, First Lutheran Church of Richmond
Wed., June 8: 7:30 p.m.
Please join us on Wed., June 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach for the final Shoreline Community College Choir Concert of the year. The Chamber Chorale and Shoreline Singers will perform choral music from Austria, England, Syria, America, and more.
This will also be Dr. Fred Lokken’s farewell concert as Director of Choral Music at the college. After 18 years of teaching and conducting at Shoreline Community College, Fred is stepping down as choir director.
Alumni of the Chamber Chorale and Shoreline Singers have been invited to perform with the current choirs in two encore pieces under Dr. Lokken’s direction. Did you know? The Workforce Education office (first floor of FOSS, room 5101) has tons of great services for students including:
Funding for school
Professional/technical students and GED/ABE and ESL students may qualify for funding to pay for tuition, books, and transportation through Basic Food Employment & Training, Opportunity Grant, Work First, or Worker-Retraining. Go to startnextquarter.org to see which Grant Programs you may qualify for.
Low-income students, especially those receiving DSHS benefits, e.g., students on basic food (food stamps) or on TANF, are often eligible.
Currently or recently unemployed, veterans, self-employed needing retraining, and people impacted by loss of spouse may also qualify.

A representative from the Employment Security Department helps unemployed individuals review ESD job listings.
Community-based Partners from agencies like Hopelink provide one-on-one job search coaching for low-income students.

For Summer 2016, Tutoring Services will be operating primarily in room 1103 during the library renovation, which begins this Fri., June 10.
Below is the list of temporary venues where students can find the help they need from all of us:

The Writing and Learning Studio: 1504
Tutoring Services is also currently in need of tutors in a variety of subjects. Tutors in all subjects are needed, but we have particular need in statistics, engineering, music tech, and dental hygiene.

At the end of Fri., Jun 10, the 4200 and 4300 floors of the Ray W. Howard Library, aka 4000 Building, will be closed to patrons until September. The Library will relocate its service desk to the PUB room 9302 for Summer 2016 quarter, where our hours will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday while classes are in session. We will have course reserves (print and media) on-site, and some mild ability to page items out of the 4000 Building. The desk will be staffed by at least one circulation expert and one reference librarian at all times. We are always available via Ask A Librarian, our reference chat service, and we’ll take your questions from voice mail and email as quickly as can be.
A college service often associated with the Library is the production and maintenance of Shoreline Community College ID cards. Beginning June 13, those duties will be transferred to the Bookstore. For students, a copy of their current class schedule and evidence of photo identification (passport, drivers license, etc.) remain the standards for obtaining a new ID card, updating a current one, or replacing a lost one.
Put the Library to work for understanding the world of information, this summer and on into the future!

Please welcome Ángel de Jesus González as the new Assistant Director of the Student Leadership Center. Ángel’s first day in his new position was Mon., June 6.
Originally from Southern California, Ángel completed his undergraduate career at Whittier College double majoring in Environmental Science and Spanish. It is at Whittier College where Ángel discovered his vocation of working with students and decided to pursue a Master of Arts in Post-secondary Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Student Affairs at San Diego State University.
Ángel has worked as a Study Abroad Advisor, Graduate Assistant at Whittier College, and most recently served as a Resident Director at Pacific Lutheran University. He is extremely excited to join the Shoreline community and foster a space that will help him and his students grow. He looks forward to supporting his students and advocating for equity and social justice. In his downtime, Ángel likes to explore, travel, dance and eat with his partner. He looks forward to challenging and supporting his students as they find their passion and purpose.

Shoreline Community College is hosting its Annual Athletic Banquet and Silent Auction on June 10 at 6:30pm in the PUB Main Dining Room. This banquet celebrates all of the Academic and Athletic success of our Shoreline student-athletes from the 2015-16 school year.
The event begins with a silent auction at 6:30pm. Our Shoreline coaches, Athletic Director Steve Eskridge, and the Athletic department staff will be auctioning off gift baskets as a fundraiser for Shoreline Athletics. The auction is followed by dinner and awards at 7:30pm.
Tickets for this event are $20 and include dinner. Seniors, students, children, and Shoreline Community College staff/faculty can get a discounted ticket for $15. All Shoreline Community College student-athletes receive free admission to this event. If you would like to attend you can pick up your ticket in the Athletic Department Offices in the 3000 Building.

Congratulations to our graduating Class of 2016 who celebrated Commencement this past Sun., June 5 in (very warm) style. Presided over by President Cheryl Roberts, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Bob Francis, and Board of Trustees Chair Catherine D’Ambrosio. Joining them on stage were student speaker Ashley Cowan and faculty speaker Kristin Marra.
