Tutors wanted for the Business Technology Center – hiring now!

The Business Technology center is in need of a tutor to staff the BUSTC Study Skills Center beginning immediately. The hours are Mon – Thurs, 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. If you know the Microsoft Suite, and would like a part-time job on campus, please let us know! Auditions for the 2016 Shoreline Shorts, Black Box Theater (downstairs 4000 bldg)
Wed., March 30: 1-3 p.m.

“Shoreline Shorts” the spring one-act play festival is holding auditions Wed March 30th from 1-3 in the Black box theatre in the basement of the library. You can sign up for a five-minute slot either online or on the office door of 4108 next to the Black Box. A one-minute monologue is needed for your audition.

The show runs June 8, 9, 10 & 11. Rehearsals will primarily be 2-3 times a week between 12:30-3:00. 1-11 credits can be earned for participating. If you have any questions, please email tdoupe@shoreline.edu.

Maxim Healthcare’s Flu and Wellness Program provides on-site flu and wellness services to corporate, retail, and medical facility locations throughout the nation. Music Department’s First Annual Spring Soiree, Main Campus Theater

Greetings!

The music department would love to have you join us for our first annual Shoreline Community College Spring Soiree. The event will feature several faculty performers, including the amazing and talented Dave Bristow, Jim Elenteny, Jeff Junkinsmith, Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Kim, Meg Stecker-Thorsen, and more!

We’ll start with an opening cocktail/social hour at 3 pm – with a few of our best and brightest students providing music in the Campus Theater lobby. At around 4 pm, the faculty performances will begin on the main theater stage and will last around an hour – more program details will follow next week.

We hope you can join us for this very special event – all proceeds from ticket sales and beverage/snack sales will go to the Music Scholarship Fund.

How many times have we read job posting “KSAs” (Knowledge, Strengths, Abilities recommendations for applicants), then grew excited about how the bulleted items were all matching up to our abilities and expertise. . . And then – Boom – the last one or two listed are not within our skill range, and we pass on applying.

Not a lot of applicants know that they can still get positions without aligning to every detail of what’s asked in the job description. We’ll talk about some of these strategies along with some info on our revamped Word and Excel courses. All this along with the usual great coffee and treats from Central Market.

Shoreline launches new Honors Program for Fall 2016

Shoreline Community College is launching a new program that will support eligible students to earn an associate degree with honors and transfer to a top four-year university to complete their bachelor’s degree—saving a significant amount on the cost of their overall tuition for a bachelor’s degree. The new program, American Honors, will enhance the existing Honors program offered at Shoreline.

“The American Honors program is a tremendous opportunity for students to get even more out of their Shoreline experience,” says Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D., President of Shoreline Community College. “It’s an ideal avenue – and an extraordinary academic opportunity – for those who are looking to continue their education beyond community college.”

By starting local, American Honors program graduates report saving up to 40% on the total cost of their bachelor’s degree. Students in the American Honors program prepare for junior- and senior-level coursework in small, rigorous Honors classes. For two years, Honors students develop leadership and academic skills in a close-knit community with the support of one-on-one advising.

Students are able to apply for transfer to any four-year college or university, or take advantage of transfer agreements with a network of top colleges and universities in the exclusive American Honors National Transfer Network. Four-year schools in the growing American Honors Network include universities in Washington such as Gonzaga University, University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University, and Whitworth University.

“We’re so excited for Shoreline Community College to offer American Honors,” says Phil Bronner, CEO and Co-Founder of Quad Learning, the education service provider that collaborates with select community colleges to offer the American Honors program. “Colleges with an American Honors program find incredible student success. This decision will increase two-year completion rates and transfer success for students, which really demonstrates the commitment Shoreline has to their mission and their students.”

American Honors program graduates have been accepted to schools within and beyond the American Honors network including Stanford University, University of Washington, Vanderbilt University, Seattle University, University of Southern California, and Western Washington University, and many have received transfer scholarships to help towards the cost of tuition for their transfer schools.

Shoreline Community College joins 9 other community colleges across the US to offer the American Honors program, including Community Colleges of Spokane and Pierce College in Washington. Shoreline Community College will offer the program in Fall 2016. Students interested in applying should email admissions@americanhonors.org with questions. The selection process is holistic and examines candidates’ leadership abilities, extracurricular activities, academic achievements, standardized test scores, and commitment to the ideals of the program.

Reminder: Free parking first day of spring quarter, Mon., March 28

To facilitate students’ needs in preparing for the new quarter, parking on campus will be free the first day of spring quarter, March 28. Though parking is free during this period, please still park in designated student lots.

Safety & Security will post signage on the parking machines on the free parking day.
