Hello Shoreline student,

We are contacting you to request your input as we develop the Fall 2021 class schedule. We are considering a limited reopening of in-person instruction. However, we need feedback from both students and faculty.

Please complete the Fall 2021 In-Person Instruction Reopening Survey (student) at your earliest convenience. The survey will be open until Friday, February 19th at 4:30 p.m. We will review responses on Monday, February 22 and hope to arrive at a decision about the Fall modality by the end of that week.

As you know, our main priority remains ensuring the safety of our campus community, but also ensuring that we can be responsive to student needs related to enrollment.

Sincerely,

Phillip J. King

The following message was shared with Shoreline employees on Monday, February 1, and is being shared with students to keep our entire campus community informed.

After 41 rewarding years in higher education, (25 in community colleges), I am announcing my decision to retire. It is difficult to personalize an e-mail, but I want to say how privileged I have felt to serve the students, Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and administrators at Shoreline Community College. The decision to retire was difficult with so many exciting projects ahead of us. However, given the need to begin refreshing our strategic plan, it seemed appropriate to be open and transparent that I will be retiring on June 30, 2022. This will allow the new president the opportunity to begin work as I did—engaging the campus and larger community in this important and focused work. We have much ahead of us with reopening the College, completing the capital campaign, continuing work on the major capital projects, implementing ctcLink, and all the student success initiatives supporting Guided Pathways. As always, I’m committed to moving these transformative efforts, forward.

Serving as a college president for over thirteen years has been the most enriching and inspiring experience of my career. It has allowed me to interact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community leaders and learn how our community colleges make a difference to each individual we serve. I have seen how community college partners work together to improve lives, improve livelihoods, and give hope to those who may not have experienced it previously. The past six years as President of Shoreline has been an incredible and rewarding experience and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity.

I look forward to the work ahead of us!

With deep gratitude,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Dear Student,

Shoreline has begun the process of sunsetting the Early Childhood Education (ECEprogram. As of spring quarter 2021, the ECE program will no longer accept any new students, however ECE courses will be offered in the spring, based on current student needs.

After spring 2021, students in thECE program will be provided with options for completing their degrees and certificates. The College will make every effort to ensure they are able to complete their studies in the same amount of time, in the same modality (online), and for the same cost as originally planned.

If you are a student currently enrolled in thECE program as of winter 2021, you will receive a more detailed email by February 15in which you will be invited to work with an advisor to determine the next steps in your educational plan.

(Note: Parenting Education courses, co-op preschools, and Parent Child Center services are not affected by this change).

Thank you for your patience as we undertake this process. Please know the College is committed to providing ECE students with every resource available to ensure their educational and career success. If you have questions about this process, please contact Brigid Nulty, Acting Associate Dean of Business, Communication Studies, and Social Sciences (bnulty@shoreline.edu).

Sincerely,

Phillip King
Vice President for Student LearningEquity & Success
