The Shoreline Dolphins Volleyball team concluded an exciting season that included a North Region championship and a 5th place finish at the NWAC tournament. The Phins ended their season with a 28-12 overall record and a 10-2 record in the North Region. The Phins finished the season ranked #6 in the final NWAC Alaska Airlines Coaches Poll.
The Phins had a great run through the NWAC tournament. On the opening day they defeated Pierce in a tight 3-1 victory. The Phins dropped the first set 21-25 and then went onto win the next three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. In their second match of the tournament on the second day the Phins lost to Walla Walla (25-27, 22-25, 25-19, 23-25). The loss meant Shoreline would have to battle back through the losers’ bracket to have a chance at placing. And, battle back they did. The Phins first took on North Region rival Olympic and again came back to get the victory. Shoreline dropped the first of the best of 3 set 23-25, but came back to win the next two 26-24 and 15-7.

On the third day of the tourney the Phins would need to win 4 straight matches to reach the finals. Their first match of the day was a straight set victory over Highline by a score of 25-21 and 25-18. Next the ladies took on Tacoma and won the first set 25-21. Tacoma would tie the match with a 25-21 set victory of their own. In the 3rd and deciding set the Phins took a commanding 14-11 lead after trailing early in the set. Unfortunately the Phins could not get their final point to close out the match and lost 14-16.

The Phins had a number of great individual performances throughout their 5 match run in the tournament. Kristina Nielsen finished 5th in the tourney in Hitting Percentage at .289, 15th in Kills per game with 3.06 and 10th in Blocks per game with .88. Anya Golubitskikh finished 10th with 3.44 Kills per game. Setter Carlie Howrad finished 4th overall with 9.38 Assists per game in the tourney. taylor Alexander led the whole tournament with 14 Service Aces as well as .88 per game and finished 15th in Digs with 4 per game. A’Laisia Redden finished 10th overall with 4.44 Digs per game.
Congratulations to the Phins on an exciting and successful season.

Shoreline Dolphins’ Volleyball team had a lot to celebrate on Wednesday night. It was the last home game of the year and the last time the Dolphins faithful would get a chance to watch Sophomores Malia Parilla, Anya Golubitskikh, Quinn Walker, A’Laisia Redden, and Kristina Nielsen play in The Tank. The Phins had already clinched their spot in the NWAC tourney and were now looking to secure the #1 seed out of the North Region.

Shoreline hosted the second place Skagit Valley Cardinals. Skagit, just a game behind the Phins coming into the match, came out on fire taking the first set 25-19. Shoreline regrouped and was able to take a close second set 26-24. The Phins seemed to take control of the match with a 25-18 third set victory, but Skagit Valley continued the back and forth nature of the match with a 25-19 victory in the 4th set. This set up a 5th and final set with the first team to 15 points getting a win. Shoreline had a small lead at 8-6 as the tams switched sides of the court to finish the match. The wildest point in the 5th set came when Taylor Alexander used her foot to knock the ball over the net leading to an eventual Golubitskikh kill and a 14-12 lead. Josephine Dalrymple put the finishing touches on the win with an emphatic kill as the large Phins crowd rushed the floor.

Anya Golubitskikh capped off her Sophomore night by leading the the Phins with 18 kills, she was also named North Region Offensive Player of the Week just prior to game time. Taylor Alexander had 16 kills to go with her one kick and added 18 digs. A’Laisia Redden marked her final home appearance leading the defense with 24 digs. Carlie Howard had 55 assists and 14 digs. Sophomores Malia Parilla added 9 digs and Quinn Walker had 7 kills and 3 digs. Kristina Nielsen provided 11 kills. Josephine Dalrymple recorded 8 kills and added 16 digs.

The best news of the night came a few minutes after the conclusion of the match as word came in that Bellevue lost their match at Olympic. This combined with the Phins’ win moved Shoreline into sole possession of first place in the North Region and guaranteed at least a share of the Region championship. If the Phins win in their next match on Tuesday, November 10 at Edmonds Community College they will take the North Region all to themselves. Come on out to the game at Edmonds at 7 p.m. and support your 1st place Phins!
The game is at the Seaview Gym on the Edmonds Community College campus at 20000 68th Ave. W in Lynnwood. Find directions to campus here.
A campus map can be found here – the gym is #16.
