Summer camps for youth start this week on campus!
Athletics, Science and Visual Arts departments have summer camps on campus this summer, as well as community partners Shorelake Arts and more!
Expect to see more little kiddos and parents arriving on campus – please assist with directions if they look lost.Some camps and youth classes still have space so please share with friends and neighbors.

- Portraits are an essential part of every student artist’s portfolio. Join Teaching Artist Fergus Temporada to learn the tools to capture the human face on paper.
Draw, Paint, Stitch and Cut (August 21-25 – Grades 6-8)
- Spend a fun week creating mixed media and textile works. Draw, paint, cut, tear, and stamp as you create collages, felt objects, and frame loom tapestries.

Shoreline Community College Athletics is gearing up for their summer youth and high school sport camps.
Basketball camps for 4th – 8th grade and high school players start next week in the Shoreline Community College gymnasium. Choose from 2 weeks with coaches Aaron Mackey and Rodney Walker, and assisted by players from the college basketball teams: July 10th – 13th and July 17 – 20th. Looking for something fun to do this Saturday! We have just the thing!
Our Chinese Scholar, Fei Ke, from Sichuan, known as the home of pandas, will take you on a virtual tour to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Knowledge of pandas will be introduced and a fun quiz will follow to add interest. The winner of panda knowledge quiz will get a panda toy gift brought from China. The highlight of the workshop is panda crafting – to create your own 3D Panda origami with supplies and instructions provided. This workshop is good for students aged 13+ and adults of all ages! Age 8-12 students can attend with an adult.

NEW! Growing Food – A Gardening Party!
Join Kathy Anderson in this 1-day workshop to learn how to create a bountiful veggie and fruit garden this summer! Kathy is an installation contractor and hands-on consultant through her business, Bountiful Landscapes, and formally trained as a Water Ecologist. In this PNW specific class, students will review garden planning, best layouts for available space, tools and smart garden growing practices. Then, you will get your hands in the dirt by planting seeds, roots and fruit-bearing plants – which you can take home for your own garden. All levels of interest and skills welcome.

Paper-cutting, as a culture symbol of China and popular folk art, was listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. Archeologists have been able to trace the tradition of papercutting to as far back as the 6th century.
In this hands-on workshop, Chinese language and culture guest instructor Fei Ke from Shoreline Community College and guest scholar Lili Zhang from Pacific Lutheran University will co-host to teach participants basic skills of paper-cutting. You will make your own paper-cutting art with materials provided, learn about the myths and legends behind the folk art, and enjoy an incredible exhibition of artwork by paper-cutting master Lili Zhang (available for purchase).

Linda Rittenhouse is a self-published author of twenty-three children’s titles.
