Join SCC in celebrating the tradition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by constructing a multicultural altar in the SCC PUB lounge. The celebration will feature traditional treats and the opportunity to learn and create traditional Day the Dead artifacts: Calaveras (sugar skulls), and cempasúchil (marigolds).
We will kick off at 1:30pm right outside of PUB 9208 for an incense burning ceremony, in part, to create a sacred space, but traditionally it serves as an olfactory lure for the dead. After a few words and a moment of remembrance, we will move the celebration indoors!
We would like to invite students and staff to contribute items to the community altar we will be displaying in the pub lounge. Follow our instagram for an infographic of items that are traditionally placed, but we would love to incorporate additional elements from other diverse cultures in our community. Please email to let us know if you would like your item to be locked in the display case.
Date: Wednesday 11/1/23
Time: 1:30-4:00pm
Location: PUB 9208
