Here are the events happening around campus for Thurs., April 14.

Intramural Zumba, Athletics Room 3025
Thurs., April 14: 12:35-1:25 p.m.
Free to all Shoreline Community College students, faculty, and staff.

Artist’s Reception – Painting by Molly Magai, Admin (1000) bldg. gallery
Thurs., April 14: 4-6 p.m.
MOLLY MAGAI Poster-email[5]
Molly Magai makes paintings of landscapes dominated by cities, roads, industry, and the living things that inhabit them. These structures, created for human convenience, are very much in conflict with nature. They are also an awe-inspiring human accomplishment, the work of generations of builders and engineers. Most of us ignore these landscapes as we pass by them. Magai’s job as a genre painter is to make you see them, in their destructiveness and their beauty.

Magai make paintings based on snapshots she takes from a moving vehicle. Handicapped by the car’s speed, the camera creates inadvertent effects – unexpected colors, halos, and blurs. She is interested in the sensation of speed, and the way the image is filtered first through the camera, the painter, and the painting.

Intramural Personal Training, Athletics room 3007
Thurs., April 14: 6:05-6:50 p.m.

Free to all Shoreline Community College students, faculty, and staff.

Great Discussions Series: The Middle East, Room 1010(M)
Thurs., April 14: 6:30-8 p.m.
Part of the Great Discussions series. Part of an 8-part series, *registration is required. For more information go to the GAC website, or contact Larry Fuell (lfuell@shoreline.edu, 206-533-6750) or Elouiessa Muana (emuana2@shoreline.edu, 206-546-6996.

The campus community is invited to attend a two-day lecture by Michael Foster of 350.org, one of the major organizations fighting against global warming. Michael will be speaking to two English 101 classes on Monday and Tuesday, May 9 and 10, at 7:30 am and 8:30 am in Room 1727. All students are welcome – you do not need to be enrolled in these classes to attend.

Please RSVP to Nancy Eichner at neichner@shoreline.edu if you plan to attend so that we can ensure the space is big enough to accommodate everyone.

A little about Michael Foster: He has an excellent Power Point presentation and connects well with students. He is a clinical psychologist by trade, but has devoted himself to the anti-global warming struggle for several years. One of his major accomplishments has been to establish and direct the local Plant for the Planet group, an international organization begun a few years ago by a nine-year-old from Germany. Michael has been trained in presenting to groups about climate change by Al Gore’s foundation.

The first day of Michael’s presentation will be about the climate change situation—a survey of global warming causes and effects. The second day focuses on solutions.

We hope to see you May 9 and 10 – please remember to rsvp to neichner@shoreline.edu if you can make it!

Shoreline Community College’s Adventure Builders Club presents an exciting and fulfilling game for all Shoreline students to participate in this spring quarter – Battle Royale!

Battle Royale is a campus-wide event that takes place during one whole week – April 25-29, 2016. The objective of the game is simple: Eliminate as many targets as you can in that span of time. This week-long game will definitely keep your adrenaline pumping while being on the lookout for whoever’s after you! Don’t worry about class disruptions or not having time to relax, because our rules include off-limit locations and red zones, where you can take breaks. Based on our previous experience in handling this event, a fun time is guaranteed for our participants!

Some awesome prizes will also be given to the highest-scoring players. We have prepared a prize pool up to $150! Registration is FREE and is open from February 29 until April 20. Register here and check out our Facebook page for more information.

Get ready to be tactical, smart, and a little bit sneaky!

Please schedule and plan to attend an important meeting with the campus community and me this week, Friday, April 15, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Automotive Showroom (Room 2120).

Before my announcement of the “failed search” for the recruitment of the Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (EVP-ASA), I carefully considered my options for filling the position. At the meeting on Friday, I will discuss my decision with the College and indicate how we will move forward to fill the EVP-ASA position. My decision was informed both by our recently completed search process and my further review of candidates who have the abilities to provide the leadership we require in this position.

Sincerely,
Cheryl
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President
