Calling all Art Students – or anyone who just loves art! Here are two fun opportunities to volunteer in the arts this summer:
25th Annual Shoreline Arts Festival: Help hundreds of guests celebrate this free show of paintings, ceramics, jewelry, photography, music and dance on June 27 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and June 28 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) at Shoreline Center (Northeast 185th Street and First Avenue Northeast). Various shifts available, including children’s activities, and set-up/take-down. Contact: Kelly Lie, 206.417.4645, artsed@shorelinearts.net.
August Arts Camp counselors: Help supervise 3rd-6th graders during a week-long day camp in Shoreline Center, 18560 First Ave. N.E.. Classes in fabric arts; needle-felting; paper lanterns; multi-media; theater arts; vocal music; and poem and yoga dancing will be offered. 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Aug. 3-7. Come see “Ironman” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” re-done by SCC Music Technology 233 students as part of their Capstone project. Free Movie Night takes place in the new SCC theater ( great sound and picture!!!) this Tues., June 9 from 7 p.m. – midnight.

This Fri., June 5 from 1:30-2:30 join us on the ground floor of the FOSS building for a Job Seekers’ Roundtable on transferable skills.
Transferable skills are those you have acquired during any activity in your life — jobs, classes, projects, parenting, hobbies, sports, virtually anything — that are transferable and applicable to what you want to do in your next job. For example, almost every resume I have seen includes the bulleted item “strong communication skills.” But what exactly does that mean? Forms and styles of written communication? Great storyteller? Conveying a positive and likable self-image? All the above?
We often fall into the trap of describing ourselves as a job title, rather than who we really are, and what inspires or motivates us. The fact is, the skills we’ve learned from a lifetime of “you do this, I give you a check,” are just a fraction of everything that makes each one of us unique.
Join us for a discussion about how we might assign our skills to a broader variety of jobs and careers.
As per usual: Strong coffee and sweet treats will be provided, all compliments of Central Market.

Thurs., June 4 from 7:30-8:30 join us for an evening of beautiful singing as the SCC Chamber Chorale and Shoreline Singers, directed by Fredrick Lokken, present “If Music Be the Food of Love.” The program includes wonderful choral music about love, adoration and community from around the world and from over four centuries.

Come and dance your stress away with families from SCC’s off-campus preschool co-ops! Ian Dobson, steel drummer, will be performing in the courtyard as a part of BREATHE activities on Thurs., June 4 from 11:30-12:30. This event is sponsored by the SCC Parent Advisory Council and Parent Education.
Did you know that SCC has 7 preschools in the community, serving families of children 0-5 years, from Shoreline to Woodinville. These co-ops, taught by 15 Parent Education Associate Faculty, offer a unique educational experience consisting of a child-centered preschool laboratory setting with adult-centered lectures and discussion groups. In the preschool classrooms, parents become active partners in their children’s education.

ICYMI – Spindrift is Shoreline Community College’s award winning arts and literary magazine. Join us on Thurs., June 4 from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the PUB’s main floor lounge and enjoy refreshments and an art display.

BREATHE is a quarterly event that occurs the Thursday before finals week.
Students often report high levels of stress before finals, which can negatively impact their academic performance as well as their physical and mental health. BREATHE aims to reduce student stress as well as connect students to the SCC community by offering a full day’s worth of activities designed to give students a chance to chill out, relax and most of all – breathe!
Look for FREE activities and giveaways all day!
BREATHE is coordinated by Counseling Services and is facilitated by several campus departments including Student Leadership, Athletics, Office of Special Services, and Parent Education Program.
