Shoreline Community College is proposing the repeal of Chapter 132G-136 and the creation of Chapter 132G-137 of the Washington Administrative Code regarding the Use of College Facilities. The College is proposing these changes to provide updated and clarified language regarding the Use of College Facilities at Shoreline Community College.
The update code incorporates new model language that implements best practices for the smooth operation of Shoreline Community College’s buildings and grounds in support of our primary mission as an educational facility.
In compliance with RCW 34.05.320, the College is providing an opportunity for comments on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Quiet Dining Room of the PUB. Alternately, comments related to this rule revision, may be submitted to sccrulemaking@shoreline.edu on or before October 4, 2018.
Shoreline Community College is also proposing the creation of Chapter 132G-142 of the Washington Administrative Code regarding the Use of College Facilities for Expressive Activities. The College is proposing these changes to provide clarifying language regarding the Use of College Facilities for Expressive Activities at Shoreline Community College.
The new code incorporated new model language that implements best practices regarding time, manner and place restrictions for expressive activities on campus covered under First Amendment rights. This language is being created to ensure that there are protections in place to eliminate disruption to the educational process.

The Queer I Am Conference (QIA) is an annual event hosted by the Multicultural Student Services Directors’ Council (MSSDC). It focuses on creating a liberating and welcoming space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) students.
This year it will be held at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Oct. 26-27. Shoreline’s Multicultural Center will be sending a group of students for free, but space is limited so sign up early if you’re interested. This opportunity is open to all current and enrolled students. Join Shoreline Community College for Seattle’s PRIDE Parade next Sun., Jun 24. This year the College will have a float in the parade and all students, faculty, staff, and friends are welcome to join in and march alongside the College float. Sign up here!
The parade runs along 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle, beginning at Union Street and running north to Denny Way. View the parade route.
Shoreline’s Project Pride Club is sponsoring the College entry in the Pride Parade, which is an annual event attended by thousands of spectators. This will be a fun event with great exposure for the College. Participants will be handing out Shoreline Community College beads to the crowds. Shoreline Community College Theater presents the world premiere of Off We Fly Now, which will be performed as a mixed media experience in collaboration with Shoreline’s Visual Communications Program to combine live action with animation.
Snow White, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Sleeping Beauty, have found a way to escape from their centuries-old fairy tales. Arriving in the “real world,” they quickly attract the attention of the media and the public. As the four attempt to discover the meaning of life, they end up becoming reality show celebrities. Then they begin to realize that the real world, similar to the fairy tale world, is full of tricks and traps. Fame, love, youth, and marriage are each unsolved riddles.
Off We Fly Now challenges the boundaries between fairy tales and the truth. Perhaps, after all, the tales were written to prepare us for life in the real world.

This vocal concert is the final performance of the quarter for students enrolled in Voice Classes. The students choose their own solo piece to perform and there will also be small vocal ensembles performing. Students have been working hard to develop their stage presence as well as their vocal skills. The music selections for this recital range from present day composers to Early Baroque pieces.

Please join us Shoreline Community College’s Veterans Programs as we honor and remember those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We will have a flag raising ceremony followed by a reception with members of the American Legion Post 227.

Shoreline Dental Hygiene faculty and students began a tradition in 2011 of providing practical work support at the first and only dental hygiene school in Cochabamba, Bolivia. They learned many things, including how simple healthcare practices can make a difference in impoverished communities. 2018 will be the fourth year of offering this service-learning opportunity to Shoreline students and other students in other colleges.

Volunteer drop-in at campus garden: Deep Roots Garden, near the 2400 building
Wed., May 30: 1-2pm
Drop in and help out at the Deep Roots Community Garden located next to the 2400 building. Come for the whole hour or only 15 minutes. It will feel good to do some tending, weeding, planting, and growing. Volunteers check in at the Greenhouse. Gloves and tools provided.
Composting Workshop: Garden and Greenhouse, near the 2400 Bldg

Free one-hr workshop on the basics of how to make compost! Topics include different methodologies for making compost and different ways to make a compost bin in your home or apartment.
A service learning or volunteer opportunity to make compost for the community garden in compost tumblers is available.
