What is the Global Showcase? Each year, students from around the world introduce and represent the fascinating characteristics of their countries and cultures with energy, passion, and pride. We strongly encourage you to participate in the event and get engaged in the eye opening cultural exchange opportunity.

Whether you’re showcasing your culture or not, come join us for this year’s Annual Global Showcase on March 3, 2016 from 12:30-3 p.m. in the PUB Main Dining Room 9215.

Join us Tues., Feb. 2 in the PUB from 2-4 p.m. for the Winter 2016 International Transfer Fair. University reps will be spread throughout the PUB in the Main Dining Room, Quiet Dining Room, 9201, 9202, and the lobby (see map below).

Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to talk with representatives from universities from Washington State and all over the U.S. (plus a few from Canada)! Representatives from 95 universities will be on campus to answer your questions about transfer requirements, majors, housing, and extracurricular programs at their universities. While the representatives work primarily with international students, domestic students are welcome to attend. Participating universities include Arizona State, Baylor University, Drexel University, Georgia Tech, Seattle University, University of California – Irvine, University of Oregon, University of Washington, WSU, and more. Stop by the International Education Office (9302) for a full list of participating universities!

Shoreline’s 2nd annual Queer Film Festival kicks off Mon., Feb. 1 with a screening of KUMU HINA, “a uniquely Hawaiian love story.” The film shows at 12:30 p.m. in the PUB 9208.

KUMU HINA is a powerful film about the struggle to maintain Pacific Islander culture and values within the Westernized society of modern day Hawaii. It is told through the lens of an extraordinary Native Hawaiian who is both a proud and confident māhū, or transgender woman, and an honored and respected kumu, or teacher, cultural practitioner, and community leader.

College representatives from City University of Seattle and the University of Washington will be on Shoreline’s campus in the PUB lobby Mon., Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to meet with interested students. Reps will discuss topics such as academic programs, campus life, financial aid, and admission procedures for their college. They can answer other questions students may have too.

One of our most popular courses, Philosophy and Film, is back this quarter and is F-R-E-E! The Massively Open Online Course (MOOC) is taught by William Lindenmuth and starts Mon., Feb. 8.

This course will examine a variety of philosophical arguments through the medium of film. It will consist of video lectures, readings, and lively discussion. Students will engage a wide range of exciting thinkers, issues, and movies with the goal of understanding both how our world is and how we want it to be.
