The Student Leadership Center
and Advising Services partner to offer New Student Orientation (NSO) before each quarter begins. New Students will:

  • meet faculty, staff, current and new students
  • learn about the services and resources available to enhance your personal and academic success, and
  • become familiar with the college through a campus tour

There are two options for New Student Orientation sessions for winter quarter. Both take place in the PUB (9000 bldg). Main Dining Room:

Wed., Jan. 4 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Thurs., Jan. 5 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The 4200 and 4300 floors of the Library are closed to any patrons for the duration of the winter break. As part of this closure, Tutoring Services is not physically accessible to students until the beginning of Winter quarter (January 9), but students still can reach us electronically or by phone message.

We’ve got a full day of BREATHE events scheduled for Thurs., Dec. 1 – so check out the calendar of events below and come BREATHE before finals with us!

Play video games at the Veterans’ Resource Center
Make a vision board
Paint a pet rock
Eat a snack
Make jewelry
Make your own DIY bath products
Try Zumba! or yoga
Snuggle with a therapy dog
Build a marshmallow spaghetti tower
Make a holiday craft
Play a board game
Make your own stress sock (or, in the words of my child – an “in distress” sock)
….OR, just chill out???

If so – keep reading!

Check out our quarterly pre-funk to finals week – BREATHE.  This quarter BREATHE events begin Monday, November 28 (with Dr. Roberts and her therapy dog in the PUB Lobby) and wrap up on Friday, December 2 (with yoga in the gymnasium or swimming at a local pool), with our main event happening Thursday, December 1 (events across campus – and make sure you stop by the Counseling Center for free food, crafts, and more)!

Students often report high levels of stress before finals, which can negatively impact their academic performance as well as their physical and mental health. BREATHEaims to reduce student stress as well as connect students to their SCC community. These efforts assist our students with attaining their academic and personal goals.

In order to finish construction on the 4000 Building, the second and third floors (4200 & 4300) will be closed during Winter Break. Both floors will re-open on the first day of Winter 2017 classes, Mon., Jan. 9. The book drop box is available for anyone returning items to the Library.

The student computer lab in 4102 will be open for those seeking technology access. The complete break schedule for 4102 will be posted shortly.

Students and staff can take advantage of low-cost, high-quality dental care at the on-campus Dental Clinic. Patients can expect a high level of nurturing, attention to detail, quality care, and professionalism with direct supervision from registered dental hygienists and licensed dentists. The clinic accepts insurance; patients will be asked to pay for treatment and then submit forms to their insurance.

Special rate for Shoreline Community College Students, Faculty and Staff: Exam, cleaning, x-rays, and fluoride for $50.

Schedule:  The clinic is open at these times during quarters. The clinic closes during all quarter breaks.

·       Mondays & Wednesdays: 8AM – 12PM; 1:30PM – 5:30PM during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters

·       Tuesdays & Thursdays: 8AM – 12PM during Winter and Spring quarters

·       Wednesdays: 8AM – 12PM; 1:30PM – 5:30PM during Summer quarter

The Business Technology & eLearning Center (Room 1304) is open for extended hours during the last week of classes (November 28 – December 2)!

Monday – Thursday: 11:30 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Business Technology and eLearning Center is available to students enrolled in select Business Technology (BUSTC) classes. Students can drop-in to the center during open hours to receive extra assistance.

This center is also open for students in online (N section), hybrid (Y section), and web-enhanced (S section) classes who are seeking drop-in assistance with basic computing questions such as how to attach a file to an email, knowing which web browser to use, and how to use your Shoreline email account.

Friday, December 2, is the last day the BUSTC & eLearning Center will be open for fall quarter. This Center will be closed during finals.

During this session you will:

• meet with a general academic advisor
• discuss degree options
• register for classes

In addition to drop-in learning centers for biology and chemistry, BUSTC and eLearning, accounting and economics, physics, and conversation groups, Tutoring Services offers one-on-one tutoring for students who need regular, weekly help in any of their SCC courses. There can be a wait for help in courses in which we do not have available tutors, but we strive to hire additional tutors as soon as we’re able. You can visit us online here.

The deadline to apply for a one-on-one tutor for Fall 2016 classes is Sunday, November 20, 2016.

We are now accepting applications for one-on-one tutoring assistance for Winter 2017 once you have successfully enrolled for your winter courses.

You can fill out the application to receive tutoring help in person in 4228, or you can complete our online application.

Help us honor our Veterans by filling our tree with leaves. Beginning Nov. 1, stop by the Veterans Resource Center (FOSS 5225A) and fill out a leaf. Write a Veteran’s name or message to a Veteran on a leaf or place a photo of a Veteran on our tree.
