Help get the Deep Roots Community Garden ready for the winter. On Thursday, Oct 19 we’ll be laying wood chips in the paths and doing some general cleanup. Come by anytime between noon and 2 pm. The Deep Roots Garden is located just north of the 2700 building.

The Deep Roots Community Garden grows food for the campus food pantry and a neighborhood food bank. Get involved in growing food for our students and neighbors. If you can’t make the work party but would like to be notified of future events, please contact Judy Penn (jpenn@shoreline.edu) or Adria Magrath (amagrath@shoreline.edu).

Won’t be around on the 27
th? No problem – we have blood drives scheduled throughout the year. To search for an event and to make an appointment, please visit https://schedule.bloodworksnw.org

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY! Earn up to $500 by hosting a blood drive this summer (deadline: 9/30/17). Interested or know someone who might be? Email Wendy at WendyChu@bloodworksnw.org for more information.

How is my gift used? After donation, your volunteered blood is separated into three components (plasmaplatelets, and red cells). These components are then transfused to a patient who may need either a combination of these components or a single component.  This is how your donation can save up to three lives! Bloodworks donations are distributed to 70 hospitals and clinics in western Washington. Bloodworks is a nonprofit, volunteer-based blood center serving our community for over 75 years.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity!

Have fun serving popcorn and candy and get free movie tickets! Seattle International Film Festival is coming to Shoreline for the second year this May 26 through June 3!

The Foundation is handling the concessions and needs volunteers to work for two films (about 4-5 hours) on these days and then you will get two tickets to SIFF films here at Shoreline.

Concessions shifts are generally noon to 5 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. on weekends and Memorial Day and from 5 to 10 p.m. on weeknights. These may change slightly depending which day you work.

The tickets are good for any film shown on our campus on any of the nine days of screenings. (You need to work a different time than the film you want to see plays). See the schedule of films here.

Concessions include popcorn, candy, soda, and water. The separate bar includes beer and wine. You must be at least 21 years of age with an ID to serve alcohol.

To sign up for a shift, email: mbrueggeman@shoreline.edu

As part of Earth Week 2017 activities, please join us for a volunteer opportunity to participate in campus-wide fruiting ivy removal on Fri., April 21 from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

This is an all-volunteer effort to remove fruiting ivy from our campus planting beds during Earth Week 2017. Birds love to eat ripe ivy berries, which they then spread throughout the region into our yards and greenbelts causing major damage to both our personal and public spaces. Ivy is an extremely damaging plant once it becomes aerial and should be eradicated from our ecosystem. All participants will need to fill out a volunteer registration form to participate, and volunteer forms must be submitted by Fri., April 14. The forms are available at the Associated Student Government offices (3rd-floor PUB) and from the Music department room 807 and will also be available at the Environmental Club table at the Back-to-School Kick-Off event in the PUB Main Dining Room on Thurs., April 13 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
