toys-for-totsThe Toys for Tots Northwest Toy Run is coming to the Seattle area, and Shoreline Community College’s automotive department is accepting donations for the 3rd consecutive year. Toys for Tots helps distribute toys as gifts during the holiday season to Northwest kids in need. We will have two boxes located on campus for donations. Please help contribute and show the Shoreline Community College spirit of giving!

Boxes are located in the PUB next to the espresso stand and in the 5000 (FOSS) Building. The last day to donate will be Thurs., Dec. 1, at which time donations will be gathered for delivery to the Northwest Toy Run at Pacific Raceways in Kent on December 4. Please feel free to come join Shoreline’s automotive program at the event.

The Winter 2017 International Students Orientation Program (ISOP) is now accepting volunteers.

ISOP volunteers will work closely with International Peer Mentors (IPMs) to assist new international students to achieve a successful orientation.

Please donate NEW pairs of socks to help homeless Veterans in need. Socks will be sent to The Seattle Stand Down, an organization that connects Veterans with gear, food, and services. Donations are being accepted now through Dec. 15 at three donation bins around campus:

The 26th annual Shoreline Arts Festival is Sat., June 25 & Sun., June 26, and is a free, two-day festival featuring music, dance, theater, art exhibitions, hands-on art activities, cultural rooms, food, and more that is organized by the Shoreline – Lake Forest Park Arts Council. A fun time for all, here’s how you can participate:

Show your art!
Submit your art to be showcased in the Arts Festival Juried 2D/3D Art & Juried Photography show. But hurry – the deadline for registration is June 19!

Volunteer!
The Arts Council is still looking for volunteers to help before, after, and at the festivalJoin the veritable army of volunteers who make this celebration of the arts possible and get a glimpse “backstage” as we entertain 10,000+ art-loving community members over two days.

Volunteers are needed for a wide range of tasks, with shifts ranging from two hours to all-day, so there’s something for every skill level and any amount of availability. Sign up now on VolunteerSpot.

Attend and enjoy the fun!
Check out the artist marketplace, dance and musical performances, food trucks galore, a performance by Missoula Children’s Theater, cultural rooms, arts and crafts stations, and more!

And, you can even avoid the stress of parking by taking the Free Arts Festival Shuttle (provided by Shoreline Community College!). The shuttle will run in a loop stopping at Meridian Park, Cromwell Park, and the Shoreline Center every 15 minutes during festival hours (Saturday, June 25 10am-6pm and Sunday, June 26 10am-5pm).

Thinking about transferring to a 4-year college or university to complete a Bachelor degree? Transfer Planning 101 is an overview of the transfer process with helpful tips and action steps for students preparing to transfer. On Thurs., Jan. 28 from 1-2 p.m. in room 9201, come learn about:

•University admission requirements
•When to start planning and important deadlines
•Expectations of universities
•How your Shoreline courses transfer
•How to research possible transfer schools and majors

Whether a student early in the process, just curious, or getting ready to apply, there is something for everyone in this session!

Volunteers are needed to help out with the upcoming FIRST LEGO League (FLL) competition that is going to be hosted on Shoreline’s campus. The competition needs volunteer judges, referees, engineers, and project managers to evaluate the students’ work. No LEGO experience is needed!The event will take place in the main gym Sat., Jan. 23 and Sun., Jan. 24. Sign up to volunteer online. Visit the Lego League website (Shoreline specific event info) or contact Amy Stapleton for more information.

If you are interested in volunteering at the FLL, please fill out an online volunteer account. You can find the link here.

Once you have created the account, go to your email and click the link sent to you to activate the account. It will take you to the log in page. Log in using the email and password you created. You will then be asked to answer a few additional questions.

When you get to the point of choosing the event, click FLL (First Lego League), zip code is 98133. Click on Shoreline Qualifier on 1/23-1/24 and you can choose the role you’d like to volunteer for or choose to be assigned as needed.
