If you would like to learn a little more about these life-saving devices, please come by! New maps of where the devices are located will be available. The more familiar you are with this equipment, the more likely you are to use them during an emergency.

The location map is also available on the Safety & Security Emergency Preparedness webpage.

For additional information, please contact the Safety and Security Department at 206-546-4633.

Locations of the chairs and AED can be found here.

plan into action
Join us Wed., Oct. 14 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in room 1301 for a workshop on planning for your AA_DTA Transfer degree.

It is recommended that Shoreline Community College students have an educational plan on file. An educational plan is like a roadmap for how to complete the degree requirements found in the program planning guides. In this session, students who intend to complete a transfer degree will learn:

• Where to locate planning guides

• The degree requirements for the program of study

• The importance of taking math and English early

• How previous coursework could be used

• To consider other life commitments like finances, work and family

• Specific course recommendations for four-year colleges

• Why to review a completed educational plan often

If you cannot attend any of these sessions, you can also make an appointment with an advisor.

global eyes series
Global Affairs Center programs begin this week at Shoreline Community College with “Cuba – A Country in Flux” this Wed., Oct. 14, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208).

Tim Payne, who teaches Economics at Shoreline, and Tod O’Driscoll, a freelance photographer who lives in Edmonds, have both traveled to Cuba in recent years, and will share their observations and images of this small but complex country. For more information about the speakers, visit our biographies page.

Cuba, a Caribbean Island nation of 11 million, is experiencing internal and external changes, most noticeably the thaw in relations with the United States. Given that the U.S. embargo on trade with and travel to Cuba has been in place since 1961, it is not surprising that most Americans know little about this place.

What is daily life like for most Cubans? How do they make a living? What are their hopes and dreams? What are the current political and economic realities of life like for Cubans? What about religious freedom? Cuba is a land of contrasts and contradictions, and no matter how many times you have visited, it is a country that is hard to totally wrap your head around and gain a full understanding of its people, culture and traditions.

domestic violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month – help raise awareness about domestic violence and join in our efforts to end violence.

Counseling Services and the Women’s Center will facilitate an interactive, scenario-based training where participants move, think and experience the lives of people impacted by domestic violence.

In Their Shoes: Understanding Domestic Violence
Wed., Oct. 14, 2015
12:30–2:30 pm in room 9202

Be prepared to interact during this 2-hour session!

Participants will make choices about their character’s relationships and move through the scenario by reading about interactions with their dating partner, family, friends, counselors, police, and others.

The development of this training was funded by the parents of Dayna Fure – murdered by her ex-boyfriend on May 24, 2004, just before she was to graduate from Stanwood High School – to invest in the lives of others and to turn their grief into action.

WEAR PURPLE – the color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month – during the month of October and use this as a way to tell others why ending domestic violence is important to you. Stop by Counseling Services (5229) or the Women’s Center (PUB, 3rd Floor) to pick up your purple ribbon!

Questions? Contact Sheryl Copeland at scopeland@shoreline.edu or 206.533.6712.
