Dear Student,
Late last week, the College was notified that a tenant in the residence hall tested positive for COVID-19. The 7000 Building’s response protocol was activated, and the tenant was moved to an isolation unit in the building, where they are recuperating. The individual’s two roommates are currently symptom free but are following quarantining procedures within their unit. All three residents are being cared for and monitored daily, with food delivery and laundry services provided.
Building residents were notified of the positive case and contact tracing has been performed to assess if anyone may have been potentially exposed on campus. (If you have not been contacted, it means you were not considered within close contact of this student.) As a precaution, the common areas of the residence hall, the PUB, the mail pickup area, and the other identified areas on campus have been sanitized.
The risk to employees and students remains low, and we will continue to keep the campus community apprised of any developments, in alignment with current public health guidance.
As a reminder, any students or employees who feel ill are asked to stay home, contact their health provider, and are encouraged to complete the COVID Exposure Report Form to aid the College in assessing any transmission risk. You can learn more about campus resources on the COVID-19 web page.
With care,
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Dear Student,
Based on current health data and the ongoing timeline for widespread vaccinations, the College will continue remote learning and operations through summer quarter (ending August 24, 2021). Information about fall quarter plans will be shared with the campus in the coming weeks after we have considered additional data.
We will continue to offer primarily online, asynchronous courses, with limited exceptions for face-to-face learning in pre-approved programs. We are also exploring options for additional synchronous online and/or hybrid class offerings and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
While so many of us are eager to return to campus in greater numbers, we also know the safest choice for our students, employees, and the community at this time is to continue to limit as much in-person gathering as possible.
Thank you,
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Hello Shoreline student,
We are contacting you to request your input as we develop the Fall 2021 class schedule. We are considering a limited reopening of in-person instruction. However, we need feedback from both students and faculty.
Please complete the Fall 2021 In-Person Instruction Reopening Survey (student) at your earliest convenience. The survey will be open until Friday, February 19th at 4:30 p.m. We will review responses on Monday, February 22 and hope to arrive at a decision about the Fall modality by the end of that week.
As you know, our main priority remains ensuring the safety of our campus community, but also ensuring that we can be responsive to student needs related to enrollment.
Sincerely,
Phillip J. King

With continued elevated rates of COVID-19 in our region, I am announcing two important updates for our community regarding our current pause in attendance on campus and our plans for spring quarter.
Extending the Temporary Pause in Campus Attendance
The College will extend the temporary pause in on-campus attendance announced last month through January 31. We ask that employees and students refrain from coming to campus during this period to help reduce the spread of the virus after the winter holidays. Limited instructional programs approved to start earlier may continue to meet on campus as needed, and the curbside pickup/drop-off service will remain in operation for students and employees.
Based on current health data and the anticipated time for widespread vaccinations to take place, the College will continue remote learning and operations through spring quarter (ending June 18, 2021).
For spring, we will offer primarily online, asynchronous courses, with limited exceptions for face-to-face learning in pre-approved programs. While we are eager to return to campus in greater numbers, the safest choice for students, employees, and the community at this time is to limit as much in-person gathering as possible. Despite the challenges of remote learning during a pandemic, I want to say I am so proud of you for continuing to focus on your studies! Our faculty and staff remain committed to supporting you virtually.
Updates to Public Health Guidance
Governor Inslee recently updated the Healthy Washington recovery plan to restart the state in Phase 1. We continue to ask everyone in our community to keep up the excellent work of wearing masks, staying 6-feet apart, avoiding crowds, and washing hands frequently. As COVID-19 vaccines begin to become more available in our region, there is a phased plan for vaccinations, starting with those at highest risk. You can learn more about this plan on Public Health Seattle & King County’s website.
In this new year, while we face many challenges, we also have overcome much and can celebrate the resilient community we call Shoreline. I look forward to seeing all that we will accomplish together, even as we remain apart.

Dear Student,
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Washington, Governor Inslee recently issued a new four-week restriction on group gatherings and certain businesses.
Status of Campus Operations
This guidance does not change the current operations or protocols at the College, as we follow the state’s Campus Reopening Guide for higher education. While our campus continues to operate remotely, we currently have 10 programs that offer some practical in-person coursework on campus, with appropriate safety protocols in place. We will continue to monitor the change in COVID-19 cases and alert the campus community of any potential changes to these on-campus programs.
Holiday Gatherings
Gov. Inslee’s latest guidance does provide some important recommendations about how to stay safe during the fall and winter holidays. Please remember, gathering in groups — even with people you know— may spread COVID-19. You may feel well and not have any symptoms, but you can still spread COVID-19 to others.
This holiday season, public health experts are urging all of us to “stay put” — to celebrate only with the people we already live with, whether that means staying at home or in the residence hall. This is especially important if, over the past two weeks, you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or you have had symptoms such as a fever, cough, or shortness of breath. The Department of Health’s Safe Gatherings webpage offers helpful ideas on ways to celebrate safely and how to have conversations with friends and family about social events.
If you decide to host or attend a Thanksgiving celebration, public health experts ask that you:
- Celebrate outdoors
- Limit the guest list to no more than five people outside your household
- Keep social interactions as short as possible
- Consider quarantining from now to the celebration date, leaving your residence only for essential activities such as buying groceries or brief periods of outdoor exercise
- Wear a mask, stay six feet apart, wash your hands regularly, and consider taking your temperature before socializing with others
- If you have been around groups of people who may not have worn masks, health experts recommend getting a COVID-19 test
Free Drive-Through Flu Shots
It’s also not too late to get a flu vaccination this season! Flu vaccination is more important than ever to keep you from getting sick during the pandemic, and to help save important medical resources for COVID-19 patients. Find out how to make an appointment or check out these next drive-through dates:
I know these are stressful times for so many reasons, which can become even more pronounced during the holidays. If you are feeling sad, lonely, stressed or anxious, please know you can find support at the Counseling Center (206-546-4594).
Thank you for being so resilient and caring during these disruptive times. I wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy start to the holiday season.
With care,
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

Dear Student,
Based on current public health information, Shoreline Community College will continue remote operations and remote instruction through winter quarter (which ends March 24, 2021).
For winter quarter, classes will be offered in the following formats:
- Online: Constructed as 100% online (no specific day/time)
- C19 Online: Temporarily online due to COVID-19 (no specific day/time)
- On-Campus: Limited professional-technical classes may meet in person (specific days/times listed)
As with previous quarters, any employees or students who need to come to campus will be required to secure pre-authorization and follow our COVID-19 campus access protocols. The only campus buildings accessible to the public at this time are the Dental Hygiene Clinic and the Parent Child Center.
While I know we would all prefer to be back together on our beautiful campus again, given the continued transmission rates of COVID-19 in King County, this is the safest and best choice for our students and employees. Remember, our caring support staff and faculty are always ready to assist you via phone, email, live chat, and Zoom video calls. We are with you every step of the way!

Dear Student,
The College has been informed that an employee who was regularly working on campus has tested positive for COVID-19. Those who came into close contact with the employee has been notified. There is a low level of risk to others since this employee had been observing appropriate physical distancing and mask wearing protocols on campus. The individual is currently under medical care/self-quarantining at home.
The College continues to monitor the situation closely and is actively following the latest and best public health guidance.
What We’ve Done:
· Contact tracing has been completed
· Communication to impacted employees and students has been completed
· The employee has been asked to quarantine per CDC guidance
· The impacted campus facilities are in the process of being cleaned and disinfected to ensure the building is safe and ready for others to return to work in that location
How You Can Help:
As a reminder, the following steps will help reduce risks to our faculty, staff, and students:
