The Multicultural Center presents two awesome events this Fri., Oct. 16.
First join us for a viewing of the documentary “The Godmother of Rock and Roll” about music pioneer Rosetta Tharpe. The film will show in the PUB room 9102 at 10:30 a.m.
Rosetta Tharpe (March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) was a singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose mixture of spiritual lyrics with rock music made her gospel’s first crossover artist. Often referred to as “the original soul sister”, Rosetta Tharpe’s singing and showmanship has been cited as a major influence on legendary musicians such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Little Richard, among others.
Second, swing by for a frank talk on racism titled “Everyone’s a little bit Racist.” The discussion will happen in the PUB room 9102 from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
The discussion will cover such topic as, When is it okay to tell a racist joke? How about a gay joke? What if they are “based” in truth? Do you think people are too sensitive to these jokes? Join us as we use a song from the upcoming Shoreline Community College production of Avenue Q to springboard a conversation on the issues of: Bias, Microaggressions, Stereotypes, “-ism”s…and why they are NOT okay.
