MayumiSteinment.jpgCongratulations to Mayumi Steinmetz, faculty in the social sciences division at Shoreline Community College, who is a recipient of The Evergreen State College 2015-16 Teacher Excellence Award.

To see the letter of award from The Evergreen State College Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Michael Zimmerman, click here.

The award honors instructors who “have had a significant impact on the lives of students.”

The student who nominated Steinmetz wrote, “Steinmetz-sensei is a dynamic teacher. Her classes are exciting, with a variety of activities. Languages can be awkward and embarrassing for adult learners, particularly when students are required to learn three brand-new alphabets! Steinmetz-sensei helps put her students at ease with smiles and jokes and clever mneumonics that make memorization a pleasure.”

Steinmetz teaches Japanese language and East Asian studies classes at Shoreline.

Congratulations on this honor, Mayumi. We’re thrilled you’re a part of the Shoreline Nation Phin Pham!
