Congratulations to Mayumi Steinmetz, faculty in the social sciences division at Shoreline Community College, who is a recipient of The Evergreen State College 2015-16 Teacher Excellence Award.

The award honors instructors who “have had a significant impact on the lives of students.”
The student who nominated Steinmetz wrote, “Steinmetz-sensei is a dynamic teacher. Her classes are exciting, with a variety of activities. Languages can be awkward and embarrassing for adult learners, particularly when students are required to learn three brand-new alphabets! Steinmetz-sensei helps put her students at ease with smiles and jokes and clever mneumonics that make memorization a pleasure.”
Steinmetz teaches Japanese language and East Asian studies classes at Shoreline.

This Sunday marks the end of daylight savings – use your extra hour to check out the debut performance of Music Technology faculty member Jim Elenteny’s new improvisational rock trio, The Insinuators. Jim and the gang are playing this Sun., Nov. 1 at the The Seamonster Lounge at 2202 N. 45th St in Seattle at 10 p.m.
