Join us Thurs., April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Shoreline Community College Theater for our Spring Quarter 2015 Honors Recital. Admission is free.
The participants in the Honors Recital were chosen during the Winter Quarter 2015 Student Jury Awards, in which SCC music students taking individual instruction lessons performed before a jury of music faculty to have their musical progress examined and critiqued. Six students received an Outstanding Jury Award designation: David Harris – Piano, Brandon Kiss – Piano, Daniel Siller – Vocals, Kerry Weinrich – Flute, CorriLynn Woods – Vocals, Yan Yunzhi – Piano. Three students received a Dictum Honorable Award designation: Heather Acord – Vocals, Jason Pai – Guitar, Carissa Yip Sin – Piano.
Come celebrate these accomplished Shoreline students with a night of free music!

Interested in exploring the trails/woods behind Shoreline? Want a group to walk with and get fit? Starting this Thurs., April 9 we’ve got a group for you!
This walking group will meet every Thurs. between now and the end of Spring quarter at 12:25 p.m. in front of the fitness center for a 45-minute stroll through the woods. Explore nature, get exercise and meet new people. Win-win-win!

The Writing and Learning Studio is presenting a series of FREE workshops aimed at supporting students in all disciplines to become more effective, more confident learners and writers so they may reach their academic, professional and/or personal goals.
The workshops cover everything from proofreading to writing under pressure and everything in between. All workshops take place in Room 1501. The first workshop in the Spring quarter series is:

Students planning on graduating this spring quarter must submit their graduation applications to the Cashier’s office on the main floor of the FOSS (5200) building by no later than Wed., April 15. The deadline to indicate you wish to participate in the June 7 commencement ceremony is also April 15.
Students planning on graduating in summer who wish to participate in the June 7 commencement ceremony must also submit their applications for graduation by April 15. Summer grads who DO NOT want to participate in the graduation ceremony have until August 15 to apply for graduation.

The Strategic Planning Task Force is off to a fast start and moving forward to gather information both externally and internally to the college. As part of the internal process, there will be a series of SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) sessions that will last 90 minutes to receive input from all sectors of the college. All members of the campus community (students, faculty, classified staff and administrative exempt employees) are strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions listed below. This is your chance to make a difference!
At these meetings, Tom Mesaros from the Alford Group will facilitate the discussion regarding the college’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in both large group and small group formats. The atmosphere will be informal, lively and collaborative.
Here are some sample questions that may be asked:
- What are college’s primary strengths in academics, scheduling, facilities, human resources, decision making, processes, student services, finances, etc.?
- What are college’s primary weaknesses in academics, scheduling, facilities, human resources, decision making, processes, student services, finances, etc.?
- What are the college’s key opportunities in academics, scheduling, facilities human resources, decision making, processes, student services, finances, etc.?
- What are the primary threats to the college?
Here are the dates and times for the SWOT sessions:
- Wednesday, April 8, Noon-1:30 p.m., Room 2305
- Friday, April 10, 8:30-10 a.m., Room 1402
- Monday, April 20, 3-4:30 p.m., Room 1402
- Friday, April 24, Noon-1:30 p.m., Room 1402
- Wednesday, April 29, 3-4:30 p.m., Room 1402

Shoreline’s Public Information Office has a work study opening for a social media guru to help manage the college’s social media accounts as well as to expand us into new platforms. Do we need to rethink U.S. foreign policy? Robert Reich identifies four myths of American culture, one of which he calls “The Mob at the Gate,” and is the idea that we see ourselves as “uniquely blessed but continually endangered by foreign menaces.” Reich argues that we need to rethink this and other myths about ourselves and the rest of the world.
What better way to (re)think about the world and America’s role than to share thoughts with friends and neighbors about some of the hottest foreign policy issues confronting the United States today with Shoreline’s Global Affairs Center’s Great Discussions Series, an 8-series event that features talks on a variety of topics key to understanding the world in which we live. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-in donors are welcomed! To sign up, please call 1-800-398-7888 or visit https://schedule.psbc.org. A photo I.D. is required to donate.
Puget Sound Blood Center has been working on rebuilding their blood inventory for the few weeks and your fellow whole blood donors have been responding in force. Even though their blood inventory has been slowly getting better, they really hope to bring it back to a stable level (i.e. 4-day of blood supply).
If you are feeling well and have an opening in your schedule this Thursday, please lend an arm and help save three lives!
