A comprehensive “self-study” of the last seven years of the Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program has been completed. This includes an analysis of everything from program admission policies to graduates’ success on national and state board exams. It also includes an in-depth analysis of the program’s curriculum, overall college support for the program and a myriad of other factors. The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) is now scheduled for a site visit May 11-12, 2022 to help verify the program’s findings. The United States Department of Education (USDE) procedures require accrediting agencies to provide an opportunity for third-party comment either in writing or at a public hearing with respect to institutions or programs scheduled for review.
All comments submitted must relate to accreditation standards for the discipline (dental hygiene) and required CODA accreditation policies. Comments will be screened by Commission staff for relevancy. Signed or unsigned comments will be considered. For comments not relevant to these issues, the individual will be notified that the comment is not related to accreditation and, where appropriate, referred to the appropriate agency. For those individuals who are interested in submitting comments, requests may be made to the Commission office.
All relevant comments will have names and/or signatures removed and will then be referred to the program at least fifty (50) days prior to the site visit for review and response. A written response from the program should be provided to the Commission office and the visiting committee fifteen (15) days prior to the site visit. Adjustments may be made in the site visit schedule to allow discussion of comments with the proper personnel. Negative comments received after the established deadline of sixty (60) days prior to the site visit will be handled as complaints. Any unresolved issues related to the program’s compliance with the accreditation standards will be reviewed by the visiting committee while on-site.
Signed or unsigned comments will be accepted, names and/or signatures will be removed from comments prior to forwarding them to the program, and comments must pertain only to the standards for the particular program or policies and procedures used in the Commission’s accreditation process.
A copy of the appropriate accreditation standards and/or the Commission’s policy on third-party comments may be obtained by contacting the Commission at 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611, or by calling 1/800-621-8099, extension 4653.
INSTITUTION: Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Ave. N, Shoreline, Washington, 98133-5696.
PROGRAM TO BE REVIEWED: Dental Hygiene Program
SITE VISIT DATE: May 11-12, 2022
60 DAY DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF COMMENTS IN THE COMMISSION OFFICE: March 12, 2022
(Commission on Dental Accreditation, 211 E. Chicago Ave. Chicago, IL, 60611)

Mandatory Training for Online Learning

To help you succeed in your online classes, you will need to complete a special mandatory training, on your own time, between now and January 14th. Here is what you need to know to get started.
How do I begin the training?
Log in to Canvas and look for the “Getting Ready for Online & Hybrid Learning – Winter 2022” training. (To access Canvas, follow these login instructions.)
What is in the training?
The training is full of helpful information. By the end of the training, you will be able to:
  • Reflect on your readiness for online learning and identify at least one resource to increase your ability to succeed.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of how to use at least three different Canvas tools
  • Practice at least two strategies for student success.
  • Utilize and practice instructional video technologies.
  • Identify at least two helpful Shoreline resources.
How long will it take?
  • You will spend about 5 hours in the training.
  • You can finish the training in one day or spread it across several days – your choice!
What if I need help while I am taking the training?
What if I do not have a computer at home?
Students may check out a laptop for the quarter on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority consideration for students who do not otherwise have a device to access online classes.
What if I do not have access to the Internet?
Check with your local internet or mobile phone provider, as many provide free and low-cost internet options right now. You can also find free Wi-Fi hotspots near you using this Wi-Fi location tool.
Please know that our caring staff and faculty are here for you! We look forward to helping you have a positive and successful first quarter here at Shoreline.
Sincerely,
Phillip King
Vice President for Student Learning, Equity, and Success
