There are some fantastic films still scheduled here at the main campus theater including WOODPECKERS, a hard-hitting but compassionate prison story from Santo Domingo. Shot on location with real inmates, WOODPECKERS tells the love story between two prisoners in neighboring institutions who communicate through an elaborate sign language known as woodpecking. The director, Jose Maria Cabral, is scheduled to attend the screening on Sat., June 3 at 1 p.m.

6:30 p.m. – PYROMANIAC
Norwegian director Erik Skjoldbjærg (INSOMNIA) returns with a slow-burn psychological thriller based on the true story of a fire chief’s son of who terrorizes his rural community with a series of increasingly dangerous fires over the course of a long, hot summer.
8:45 p.m. – 150 MILLIGRAMS
Emmanuelle Bercot’s powerful social-justice drama is a French ERIN BROCKOVICH story about Dr. Irène Frachon (Sidse Babett Knudsen), who discovers that a state-approved medication has caused suspicious deaths, leading her on a one-woman crusade to reveal the truth.

6:30 p.m. – BECOMING WHO I WAS
After a Buddhist boy in the highlands of northern India discovers that he is the reincarnation of a centuries-old Tibetan monk, his aging godfather takes him on a journey to discover his past in a beautiful story of faith and unconditional love.
9 p.m. – THE LAST FAMILY
Polish surrealist Zdzislaw Beksinski (Andrzej Seweryn) aims his camcorder at his loving wife and troubled son (SIFF 2014 Best Actor winner Dawid Ogrodnik), unfolding a subversive true-life family drama. Winner of four Polish Academy Awards.

4 p.m. – GHOLAM
Shahab Hosseini, star of 2016 Oscar®-winner THE SALESMAN, gives a mesmerizing performance as an enigmatic Iranian cab driver in London who strives to live a quiet life on his own terms until his mysterious past threatens to overtake him.
6:30 p.m. – THE HIPPOPOTAMUS
Adapted from the deliciously witty novel by Stephen Fry, Roger Allam gives a wonderfully cantankerous performance as a profane, drunken writer who takes a job investigating a series of unexplained miracle healings at a friend’s country manor.
8:45 p.m. – IN THE RADIANT CITY
Rachel Lambert’s incisive first feature, co-produced by Jeff Nichols (MIDNIGHT SPECIAL), is an intimate drama about a man who testified against his brother for committing a horrendous crime. Twenty years later he returns to his rural Kentucky hometown to face his fractured family.

The absorbing life story of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who fought on the front lines for South African human rights during her husband’s 27-year imprisonment, in focus through archival footage and interviews with both her closest friends and those who hoped to silence her.
9 p.m. – AMERICAN FOLK
Folk singers Joe Purdy and Amber Rubarth deliver elegant, naturalistic performances as two strangers who take an impromptu cross-country road trip in the days after 9/11, rediscovering the power of music to heal in the wake of an unthinkable national tragedy.

ASHRAE chapter meeting – open to all interested students
Thurs., June 1 at 7 p.m. in PUB 9202
The American Society for Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has a chapter on the Shoreline campus that aims to connect students with HVAC professionals. The chapter is linked to the Clean Energy Technology (CET) department, which teaches several courses on how to make buildings more energy efficient. We will hear from professional engineers about how they are making a difference. We will also discuss plans for the club for next year and what offerings are available in the CET department.

The Public Speaking Leadership Club is putting out an open call for talented student voices to showcase in our last event of the year: *Audience of One* – Mentor Appreciation event: June 6 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
This event will feature “mentor appreciation” presentations … a chance for students to write and present a “letter” (or art piece or poetry or anything you can think of) that honors someone at Shoreline who positively affected their academic career – this could be an instructor, administrator, tutor, employee, another student, etc. Each presenter will have about 5 minutes (if you might need more, let us know and we’ll try to work it out).
We are looking for:
• Public speaking presentations
• Reading poetry
• Original writing
• Q&A sessions
• Panel presentations
• Art/photography presentations
• Anything else you can think of?
If you would like to know more about presenting, we will have a table in the PUB near the information desk Wed., May 31, and Thur., Jun 1 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. each day.

Join the SLC and the Community Read community for a Margin to Center event: Art Show Disrupt. Tues., May 30: 12:30-1:30 p.m. in PUB 9203.
For two years the Community Read has been cultural organizing and community building through a variety of engagements with the anthology, “Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements.”
On Tues., May 30 the Community Read, in collaboration with From Margin to Center, will be curating, hosting, and celebrating a student-centered art and writing exhibition, Disrupt.
Come to Disrupt to support centering students’ cultural production, and join our efforts to strengthen critical engagements with art and literature on our campus.
