Mon., Jan. 29: 11am-1pm
College representatives will be at Shoreline’s campus to meet with interested students. Reps will discuss topics such as academic programs, campus life, financial aid, and admission procedures for their college. They can answer other questions students may have too.

Faculty, staff, and current students are invited to come enjoy the slopes at Stevens Pass with Shoreline’s intramurals department.

Event Date: 2/10/18 8:30am-7:00pm
The charter bus will leave Shoreline’s campus at 8:30am and leave the pass at 4:30pm, returning to campus around 7pm (depending on traffic). The trip is open to faculty, staff, and current students and participants can choose to ski, snowboard, or snowshoe.

Prices vary:

$66.75 lift ticket only
$28.00 snowshoe rental & trail pass
$17.60 trail pass only

The Social Justice Collective is committed to creating a campus climate that values equity and social justice at its core. Through collaborative action, the SJC engages and builds awareness of social justice programming and critical pedagogies. We are a new group that is recruiting members from all over campus—anyone interested in creating and supporting a campus devoted to social justice issues is welcome! Details about our first meet and greet and how to sign up to participate are on the college calendar under SJC Open House on Jan. 25th.

Vision Statement: The Social Justice Collective is committed to creating a campus climate that values equity and social justice at its core. Through collaborative action, we engage and build awareness of social justice programming and critical pedagogies. The Social Justice Collective prioritizes campus-wide collaboration, institutional change, and equity for the Shoreline Community College campus.

More than 100 universities from Washington State and around the country will be on campus to answer transfer questions during the Winter International Transfer Fair. Although the university representatives often work mostly with international students, all students are encouraged to attend. Speaker: Christopher Strawn, Director, Immigration Law Clinic, University of Washington; and, Staff Attorney, Northwest Immigration Rights Project

There are an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants currently residing in the United States. Allowing these immigrants to regularize their status, some argue, is good for the U.S. economy, strengthens national security, and enhances America’s culture. Others oppose amnesty arguing that it only rewards those who have broken our immigration laws. They want immigration reform that focuses on enforcement and upholding the rule of law. This presentation is a collaboration between Global Affairs Center (GAC) and the Office of Students, Equity, & Success

Come enjoy light refreshments and celebrate this student exhibition with the artists!

Four Shoreline Community College visual arts clubs come together in this exhibition to display artwork created by students involved in club activities throughout the year. F-Stop, Art Club, VCT Club, and Clay Club members present their best work in design, ceramics, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, and sculpture. These clubs are open to new members from the entire campus community.

Seattle’s Annual MLK Jr March: off-campus at Garfield High School
The Black Student Union (BSU) invites the Shoreline Community College community to participate in Seattle’s largest tribute to MLK Jr. This celebration will include workshops, speakers, and a march.

MLK Jr. Week Service Project: off-campus at Mary’s Place
Join us as we honor MLK Jr. by serving our community. We will be volunteering at Mary’s Place from 9am-3pm (2-hour shifts). Mary’s Place provides housing, employment, and wellness resources for women and families experiencing homelessness in Seattle. For more information and to sign up.

MLK Jr. Week Keynote Speaker Nikkita Oliver: PUB 9208

Nikkita Oliver is an organizer, educator, teaching-artist, and attorney. She has been actively involved in social justice movements including Black Lives Matter and No Youth Jail. In 2015, she received the Artist Human Rights Leader Award from the City of Seattle for her artist and activist work. Last year, Oliver ran for Mayor with the Peoples Party of Seattle–a collection of community and civic leaders, lawyers, artists, activists, and teachers.
