UPDATED: Shoreline Community College Alert: While we continue our recovery efforts from the storm, the Shoreline campus will be closed to all in person and online classes and services until 10:00am Thursday 11/21/24 with the exception of the Dental Hygiene program at UW which will be operating under normal business hours.
Update- Shoreline Community College Alert: Due to a continued power outage in and around Shoreline, Campus is suspending operations for Wednesday, November 20, 2024. All online and in-person classes, services and events are cancelled.
Earlier this evening, a robbery occurred on campus in front of Bldg. 7000 Campus Living. The victim had a bag torn from their hands by a suspect who then entered a black sedan and fled campus. No weapons were observed, and no injuries were reported. Shoreline Police responded and spoke with the victim.
Campus Security will have a Campus Security Officer posted in front of Bldg. 7000 for the remainder of the evening while other Campus Security personnel conduct patrols of campus. Here are a few tips to help enhance your safety and reduce potential risks.
Travel with others after dark. Walking in groups can deter criminals through strength in numbers.
If you are on campus and do not have anyone to walk with, you can call the Campus Security Officer on duty at 206-235-5860 to request an escort to/from vehicles/building.
Be aware of your surroundings. If you see a person or vehicle acting in a suspicious manner, keep your distance if possible and alert those you are with. If walking alone or at night, do not be focused on your phone or have headphones in/on both ears as this will limit your ability to see or hear someone approaching.
If you are on campus, contact the Campus Security Officer on duty at 206-235-5860. Provide your location, a description of the person or vehicle, and what they were doing that seemed suspicious.
Although you cannot remove all possible risks, taking the right precautions can help reduce the likelihood of being the victim of a crime. Please remember, possessions can be replaced, and your safety is our priority. There are uniformed Campus Security personnel on duty and on campus 24 hours a day, so please don’t hesitate to call for help or report suspicious activity.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at gcranson@shoreline.edu
As a reminder, our All-Campus Fire Drill is today October 11th. During the drill, all students, staff, faculty, and visitor are required to evacuate from all campus buildings and assemble in the designated evacuation areas (shown on map below). The alarms will activate to begin the drill. Campus Security personnel and Building Marshals will assist at evacuation points and provide directional information. Participation is mandatory if you are on campus.
We will also be taking this opportunity to test the college emergency notification system, RAVE. We will be sending a notification out via text message, automated voice message, and email. If you are staff or student and do not receive the notification, you can use your college email address and login password to update your settings at https://www.getrave.com/login/shoreline
The evacuation locations are designated by a white sign with red lettering entitled “Emergency Evacuation Point” along the perimeter of campus (reference attached photo).
Individuals evacuating buildings should proceed to the evacuation site closest to their location (map attached, evacuation sites marked by “X”)
Everyone must immediately evacuate, in a calm and controlled manner.
Do not attempt to re-enter buildings until authorized to do so by Campus Security personnel or a Building Marshal.
We do our best to limit disruptions to campus operations and classes, but there is no one-size-fits all for perfect timing for emergency drills. If you have any questions (besides the exact time of the drill), please feel free to email Acting Director of Safety & Security Gregory Cranson gcranson@shoreline.edu
A wasp ground nest has been found on the main campus walkway between Building 2900 and Building 3000. The nest is in the ground under the railing on the east side of the path by the 3000 building. Signage has been placed around the area warning of the presence of the nest. Our external contractor, Western Exterminators, is scheduled to neutralize the nest tomorrow, Thursday, October 10th. Use of alternate routes is advised in the interim as there have been multiple reports of being stung while walking through the area. While the neutralization of nests is not our preferred option at any time, these nests pose a hazard to the safety of members of our community.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, our All-Campus Fire Drill that had been planned for October 3rd has been rescheduled to October 11th.

As we work our way through the first week of the quarter, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some tips from the Department of Safety & Security.
Parking The first 2 weeks of Fall Quarter 2024 (Sept. 25 – Oct. 11) is the official grace period for students to purchase their quarterly permits. During this time, citations will not be issued for lack of parking permit in student areas (ADA violations, parking in multiple stalls, and other illegal and hazardous violations will still be cited). You may still find warnings on your vehicle instructing you to purchase a permit, but you will not be cited for lack of a permit.
Beginning Monday, October 14, permits are required to park on campus for all days each quarter, Monday-Thursday from 6:00am-4:00pm, excluding weekends and holidays. Citations with fines are issued for ADA violations, PCC parking violations, Visitor Lot violations, and other illegal/hazardous (fire lane, blocking roadway, not parked in a parking stall, etc.).
Students can purchase parking permits in Student Finance (aka Cashiers). When purchasing your permit, please be ready to provide your vehicle make, model, and license plate number. Daily permits are also available for purchase at pay stations located as you enter the East Gate from Greenwood Avenue and on the main walkway between Bldg. 7000 (Housing) and Bldg. 1000.

On Tuesday, September 24th, the roadway between Bldg. 1700 and Bldg. 1800 and the parking stalls behind Bldg. 4000 (Library) will be closed to vehicles due to work on the Bracken Building Project. Flaggers will be on site to ensure the safety of any pedestrians that may need to traverse this area. An exact timeline is not known, but we are planning for the roadway to be closed for the entire day and to be open for the first day of Fall Quarter.
