It’s been quite a year at Shoreline Community College!
From the grand opening of the Cedar Building, groundbreaking for the new Bracken Building, and the launch of our first bachelor’s degree, it’s an exciting time of change and growth for the college.
That’s why this feels like the right time to consider making another change, and we want your input.
Shoreline Community College is considering updating our name to Shoreline College.
Our name represents who we are as an institution, and it should embody our mission, reflect our growth, and position us for success into the future.
In recent years, many colleges in our area and across the country have undergone similar name changes to reflect their broader missions and expanding academic offerings.
However, we recognize that this type of change requires thoughtful consideration, and your voice is a vital part of the decision-making process.
So, we want to hear from you. Should we keep our current name or is it time for a change?
Click here to see some of the most compelling arguments to consider – in support and in opposition – and then cast your vote. Voting is open until 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, 4/24/2025.
Thank you for being part of this important decision!
Just a reminder to please submit your nominations for 2025 Commencement Speakers and the Student Service Award by this Wednesday, April 9. Self-nominations are welcome!
This is your opportunity to recognize a graduating student or a faculty member for their contributions, achievements, or positive impact.

As we work our way through the first week of the quarter, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some tips from the Department of Safety & Security.
Parking The first 2 calendar weeks of Spring Quarter 2025 (Apr. 2 – Apr. 11) is the official grace period for students to purchase their quarterly permits. During this time, citations will not be issued for lack of parking permit (Visitor Lot violations, ADA violations, parking in multiple stalls, parking in assigned spots/lots, and other illegal and hazardous violations will still be cited). You may still find warnings on your vehicle instructing you to purchase a permit, but you will not be cited for lack of a permit during this period.
Beginning Monday, April 14, 2025, permits are required to park on campus weekdays during the quarter, Monday-Friday from 6:00am-4:00pm, excluding holidays. Citations with fines are issued for ADA violations, PCC parking violations, Visitor Lot violations, hazardous driving violations, lack of parking permit, and other illegal/hazardous (fire lane, blocking roadway, not parked in a parking stall, etc.).
Students can purchase parking permits in Student Finance (aka Cashiers), located on the 2nd Floor of Bldg. 5000 (FOSS). When purchasing your permit, you will need to provide your vehicle make, model, and license plate number. Daily permits are also available for purchase at our campus pay station located on the Main Walkway in-between Bldg. 1000 and Bldg. 7000. Students can also visit the Safety & Security website to learn about the no-cost Student Carpool Parking Permits.
Campus Security We have a uniformed Campus Security Officer on campus and on-duty 24/7/365. Our personnel are trained and equipped to respond to a vast variety of calls that include, but are not limited to, basic first aid, medical emergencies, security emergencies, and calls for assistance.
If you require medical assistance, DO NOT GO TO THE NURSING BUILDING. You can come to the Safety & Security Office in Room 5102 (first floor of FOSS) or call campus security and an officer will come to you.
To reach our team during business hours, call 206-546-4633, or visit the Safety & Security Office in the Foss Building, Room 5102.
After hours or if the office does not answer, the on-duty Campus Security Officer can be reached at 206-235-5860
Courtesy Services Our department provides vehicle lockout assistance, vehicle jumpstarts, security escorts, and more!
Our daily campus shuttle now makes stops at the North Shoreline/185th Link Light Rail Station! The shuttle makes stops throughout the school day, between 8:00am and 3:00pm; you may also contact the driver directly if you are at a shuttle stop waiting for pick up, Shuttle Driver Cell Phone # 206-759-1768.
There are stations across campus that provide free naloxone (opioid overdose medication), fentanyl testing strips, and educational information in accordance with House Bill 2112 (23-24). These supplies are provided at no cost to students, staff, and community members. Please take only what you need. These are located in the Counseling Center, Bldg. 9000 2nd Floor Restrooms, Bldg. 6000 1st Floor Avanti vending area, Bldg. 4000 outside the main entrance, Bldg. 4000 outside of the 2nd Floor Restrooms, and Bldg. 7000 2nd Floor Elevator Lobby (resident access required).
Lost & Found The official campus Lost & Found is located in the Safety & Security Office, Room 5102. We hold onto items for 3-6 months before disposing of them.
Tips Here are a few tips that can help you in having a wonderful experience here at Shoreline:
STOP! If you haven’t already, save the after-hours Campus Security number in your phone now! 206-235-5860.
Park in high traffic and well-lit areas.
Remove all valuables from your vehicle and remove items from view (even if a bag only has dirty gym clothes in it, a prowler may break in hoping it contains valuables).
If you observe a suspicious person or vehicle on campus, call security.
Always keep your phone and photo ID on your person in the event that you need to contact assistance.
If you witness or observe concerning behavior or posts on social media, report it to Campus Security by calling the office or after-hours number.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not report injuries, criminal activity, or request immediate assistance via email, as email is only monitored sporadically during office hours.

This spring quarter, we’re excited to bring back Interdisciplinary Studies!
What is Interdisciplinary Studies? With Interdisciplinary Studies, two courses and two instructors come together in a single classroom to explore a common theme, allowing you to earn 10 credits and satisfy requirements in two subject areas.
What is the theme this spring? Asia Unmasked: Traditions, Revolutions, and Secrets.
We’ll explore the art, philosophy and revolutions of China, Korea, and Japan. Through historical documents, cinema, and fiction, we will examine multiple perspectives such as how Confucianism, Buddhism, and native religions were used to both enlighten and to rule over the common people.
How do I register? Visit the Asia Unmasked website. There you will find additional details as well as links to register for the classes. Not sure if these courses are suitable for your program of study? Please check with your advisor before registering.
