Dear Campus Community,

On Tuesday, September 24th, the roadway between Bldg. 1700 and Bldg. 1800 and the parking stalls behind Bldg. 4000 (Library) will be closed to vehicles due to work on the Bracken Building Project. Flaggers will be on site to ensure the safety of any pedestrians that may need to traverse this area. An exact timeline is not known, but we are planning for the roadway to be closed for the entire day and to be open for the first day of Fall Quarter.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Respectfully,

Safety & Security

Welcome to Summer Quarter 2024!

As we work our way through the first week of the quarter, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some tips from the Department of Safety & Security.

Parking
The first 2 weeks of Summer Quarter 2024 (July 1 – July 12) is the official grace period for students to purchase their quarterly permits. During this time, citations will not be issued for lack of parking permit in student areas (ADA violations, parking in multiple stalls, and other illegal and hazardous violations will still be cited). You may still find warnings on your vehicle instructing you to purchase a permit, but you will not be cited for lack of a permit.

Beginning Monday, July 15th, permits are required to park on campus for all days each quarter, Monday-Thursday from 6:00am-4:00pm, excluding weekends and holidays. Citations with fines are issued for ADA violations, PCC parking violations, Visitor Lot violations, and other illegal/hazardous (fire lane, blocking roadway, not parked in a parking stall, etc.).

Students can purchase parking permits in Student Finance (aka Cashiers). Daily permits are also available for purchase at pay stations located at the East Gate, West Gate, in front of Bldg. 7000, in the parking lot west of Bldg. 1600, and on the walkway between Bldg. 2900 and 3000.

Campus Security
We have a uniformed Campus Security Officer on campus and on-duty 24/7/365. Our personnel are trained and equipped to respond to a vast variety of calls that include, but are not limited to, basic first aid, medical emergencies, security emergencies, and calls for assistance.

To reach our team during business hours, call 206-546-4633, or visit the Safety & Security Office in the Foss Building, Room 5102.

After hours or if the office does not answer, the on-duty Campus Security Officer can be reached at 206-235-5860

Courtesy Services
Our department provides vehicle lockout assistance, vehicle jumpstarts, security escorts, and more!

Lost & Found
The official campus Lost & Found is located in the Safety & Security Office, Room 5102. We hold onto items for 3-6 months before disposing of them.

Tips
Here are a few tips that can help you in having a wonderful experience here at Shoreline:

  • STOP! If you haven’t already, save the after-hours Campus Security number in your phone now! 206-235-5860.
  • Park in high traffic and well-lit areas.
  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle and remove items from view.
    • Even if a bag only has dirty gym clothes in it, a prowler may break in hoping it contains valuables.
  • If you observe a suspicious person or vehicle on campus, call security.
  • Always keep your phone and photo ID on your person in the event that you need to contact assistance.
  • If you witness or observe concerning behavior or posts on social media, report it to Campus Security by calling the office or after-hours number.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Do not report injuries, criminal activity, or request immediate assistance via email, as email is only monitored sporadically during office hours.

For questions, please come to the Safety & Security Office (5102), call us at: (206) 546-4633 or email: safetyandsecurity@shoreline.edu

Beginning today, June 6th, you will see stations around campus that contain naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and Washington Good Samaritan wallet cards.

These products are being provided in compliance with House Bill 2112 – (2023-24). These products are provided by the college free of charge to students, staff, and the public; but please take only what you need to help sustain the supply to campus.

These products will be available in:

  • Bldg. 5000 Counseling Center
  • Bldg. 6000 1st Floor Avanti Vending
  • Bldg. 4000 outside of the main entrance
  • Bldg. 4000 2nd Floor near the restrooms
  • Bldg. 9000 2nd Floor All-Gender restrooms
  • Bldg. 7000 2nd Floor elevator lobby.

If you see these products have run out, contact Safety & Security at 206-546-4633 or safetyandsecurity@shoreline.edu for restocking.

While on campus, if you suspect someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, immediately contact Campus Security and 9-1-1. Under Washington State law, if you seek medical help for an overdose or alcohol poisoning, you and the victim cannot be charged for drug use, possession, or underage drinking (WA RCW 69.50.315).

Additional information and educational videos are available on the Shoreline Community College website. You can also visit the King County Department of Health’s website or Stopoverdose.org.

As work begins for the new STEAM (Bracken) building, we will be seeing closures of campus parking within the coming week. Please refer to the photo below for reference.

  • Friday, 05/31/2024, the southernmost section of the Upper Event Lot located south of Bldg. 2000 (indicated by the yellow box) will be closed for the duration of the project for construction parking.
    • This section has seen zero staff or student use since college returned from COVID-19 pandemic operations and should therefore have no impact on campus operations.
  • Thursday, 06/06/2024, the top section of the Upper Event Lot and the parking immediately west of Bldg. 1600 will be closed for the duration of the project for construction parking, construction lay down, and construction trailers.
    • This will eliminate the two electric vehicle charging stations west of Bldg. 1600.
      • We are working to bring the 7 new stations north of Bldg. 6000 online before the 1600 stations go down.
      • It is possible that these stations will close before 06/06/2024 as changes have to be made in order to utilize the electrical power for construction.
    • This will eliminate the motorcycle parking and daily parking permit pay station in this area.
    • Access to the smoking shelter will still be open.
  • The green lines indicate vehicle access that will remain open.
  • The blue line indicates a pedestrian access that will remain open that connects the Lower Event Lot and bottom half of the Upper Event Lot to the main campus area.
  • There will be sporadic closures of other areas throughout the construction process, as much advanced notice as possible will be given for those.

If you have any questions, feel free to email safetyandsecurity@shoreline.edu

Respectfully,

Your Department of Safety & Security

Good morning,

At approximately 5am this morning Campus Security discovered vandalism on several buildings across the East side of campus.  While there was no hate speech or threat as part of the vandalized messaging, we wanted to mention it in case you see it this morning.

Facilities is working hard this morning to clean the paint off of the buildings, and the case will be referred to local law enforcement.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to safetyandsecurity@shoreline.edu

Thank you,

Cat
