Heat Safety Tips

  • Make a conscious effort to ensure proper hydration and ventilation.
    • Drink plenty of water and have a beverage with you at all times.
    • Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink.
    • Avoid drinks with caffeine and/or large amounts of sugar which can increase dehydration.
  • Take regular breaks as needed in cooler areas where possible.
    • If you’re on campus, you can visit Bldg. 4000, 6000, or 9000; all of which are equipped with air conditioning.
  • Call campus security if you or someone else believes they are experiencing a heat related illness (206-235-5860).
    • Campus security carries emergency cooling, water, and hydration supplies.
    • Campus security can help coordinate a medical response for assessment by EMTs should it be necessary.
