During the heat wave this week, please see the following tips and guidelines for staying safe:
Heat Safety Tips
- Make a conscious effort to ensure proper hydration and ventilation.
- Drink plenty of water and have a beverage with you at all times.
- Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink.
- Avoid drinks with caffeine and/or large amounts of sugar which can increase dehydration.
- Take regular breaks as needed in cooler areas where possible.
- If you’re on campus, you can visit Bldg. 4000, 6000, or 9000; all of which are equipped with air conditioning.
- Call campus security if you or someone else believes they are experiencing a heat related illness (206-235-5860).
- Campus security carries emergency cooling, water, and hydration supplies.
- Campus security can help coordinate a medical response for assessment by EMTs should it be necessary.
Contact campus security for any injury or medical incident that occurs on campus for assistance and documentation purposes.
