Shoreline Campus Updates

You’re more than halfway through winter quarter!

As you continue through the remaining weeks of winter and begin thinking about spring, we wanted to give you some updates from around campus.

STUDENT LEARNING CENTER

The Student Learning Center now offers online “drop-in” tutoring!

The Student Learning Center provides free academic support for all Shoreline Community College students. If you need help with an assignment or prepping for an exam, the SLC is here for you!

Students can access online tutoring easily through the SLC Website or by using this link.

Tutoring is available Mon – Thurs from 10am – 5pm and Fri from 10am – 4pm.

No appointment is needed, but you are welcome to make an appointment if you’d like to guarantee a spot.

AMERICAN ETHNIC STUDIES

American Ethnic Studies (AES) is vital to creating cultural competency and developing critical thinking around crucial topics such as race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality.

This spring, students have the option of taking AES 102 in an AANHPI cohort (Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander).

This cohort offers students an even deeper sense of community as they engage with culturally relevant materials across three discipline courses:

  • American Ethnic Studies 102: Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies
  • English 101: English Composition I
  • College Success 101: College and Career Success

This optional cohort will allow students to support each other across the differing curriculum and engage with their learning in a more meaningful way.

THE HONORS COLLEGE

As of Fall Quarter 2023, the Honors College fee has been reduced to $295 per quarter (down from $495 for Domestic and $695 for International).

The Honors College is a cohort-based model that provides access to in-depth and collaborative Honors courses, research & leadership opportunities, and additional academic support for students planning to transfer to a four-year university.

Students can apply for the Spring or Fall quarter at www.shoreline.edu/honors

The Honors College is offering three courses in the Spring:

  • Gender & Women Studies 284: Gender, Race, and Class
  • Anthropology 270: Primate Fossils and Anatomy
  • Chemistry 173: General Inorganic Chemistry

This year, we also reintroduced Honors 101 Leadership Seminar and Honors 201 Transfer Seminar.

Our Honors Research Students will present at the University of Washington Undergraduate Research Symposium on May 17, 2024.
