Lawn gnomes have invaded Shoreline and are on the loose around campus! Student Life is asking all students to help us round up this whimsical wanderers. Locate a lawn gnome and bring it to the Student Life Office (PUB 9301) between 7/31 and 8/11 and you could win a goodie bag, SCC swag, gift cards, and more! Limit 1 prize per student.

Cybersecurity Advisory
Shoreline Community College (SCC) has received notice from two of our third-party vendors, the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA), that a cybersecurity incident involving a third-party software tool (MOVEit) may have exposed personally identifiable information of current and prior students and employees.
The MOVEit Transfer tool is a widely used filesharing application used by many businesses, organizations, and higher education institutions worldwide. Many of these organizations could be impacted by this event. It is important to note that SCC does not use the MOVEit software, though these third-party service providers do.
Shoreline Community College shares student enrollment data with the NSC. Some of the data shared with the Clearinghouse includes personally identifiable information. At this time, we do not know the extent of the data security breach. However, we continue to keep in contact with NSC and TIAA to monitor the situation and will immediately notify the individuals who have been impacted to the best of our ability. The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges has advised us that ctcLink has not been affected, as this incident is localized to the third-party vendors. We also know that this is unrelated to the previous ransomware incident Shoreline Community College experienced at the end of March.
National Student Clearinghouse
The National Student Clearinghouse is a nonprofit organization that provides educational reporting, data exchange, and verification services to more than 3,600 colleges and universities nationwide. SCC works with the clearinghouse for a variety of purposes including enrollment and degree verification services and student loan reporting requirements. Data provided to the National Student Clearinghouse includes personally identifiable information and education records. The National Student Clearinghouse has posted details about this incident on its website.
TIAA
TIAA is a financial organization that offers investment and insurance services to employees working in the academic, research, medical, governmental, and cultural fields. SCC provides names, addresses, dates of birth, and social security numbers for those employees who choose to participate in TIAA services. What Does This Mean for You?
The safety and security of our students, staff, and faculty is our top priority, and we remain committed to thoroughly assessing any potential impacts. This cyber breach did not impact Shoreline Community College’s network or internal systems.
If you have been affected by this breach, we will contact you in the coming weeks as soon as we obtain specific details from the NSC as to who was affected and what information was accessed. However, if you are concerned or have reason to believe that your personal information has been compromised, we would like to remind you that SCC is still offering free one-year credit monitoring through Experian® IdentityWorks℠ Credit 3B. This product helps detect possible misuse of your personal information and provides you with identity protection services focused on immediate identification and resolution of identity theft. IdentityWorks Credit 3B is completely free to you and enrolling in this program will not hurt your credit score. The deadline to enroll has been extended to August 1, 2023.

Dear Campus Community,
On Thursday, August 3rd, the college will be having an all campus fire evacuation drill. During the drill, all students, staff, and visitors will have to evacuate from all campus buildings and assemble in the designated evacuation areas. The areas are designated by a white sign with red lettering “Emergency Evacuation Point” (reference attached photo). You will also find a map attached with the evacuation points marked with a blue star. The alarms will activate to begin the drill. Once all persons have exited all buildings and moved to a designated evacuation point, the alarms will be silenced and everyone will be able to return to their buildings. Campus Security personnel and Building Marshals will be participating with assisting at evacuation points and directional information. Participation is mandatory if you are on campus.

Vintage VW Car show ad swap meet back on campus this weekend!
Drop by campus this Saturday, July 15th, Shoreline Community College in the west parking lot to see the premiere vintage VW show in the Pacific Northwest! This event had been hosted by the College Automotive department for years and raises funds for programs and students. Micropipettes and microscopes are cool! Sign up for the Kids In Medicine camp for rising 6th-9th grade students from July 17th – 21st on campus. Camp participants will immerse themselves in a fictitious, yet realistic, simulated crime and spend the week solving the case.
Collected evidence from the recreated scene is analyzed using eight different fields of forensic science. There are 12 forensic science labs and activities daily and guest experts will teach alongside professional camp staff. Each day is infused with entertaining intrigue where camp participants view video footage of suspect interactions that leak clues and potential motive. On the last day, teams interrogate their main suspect, and present their cases to a prosecuting attorney. A short reveal-film of what “actually” happened concludes the camp.
