Dear Student,
Having our voices heard in an election is a central tenet of our democracy, and we know we are facing a national election of consequence next week. As we enter the final days of this historic voting season, there is a possibility that some election results may not be settled on November 3rd or in the immediate days thereafter. If this is the case, many people’s anxiety and stress levels may remain heightened and demonstrations in our communities may occur.
While many of these events are taking place on a national level, we know they impact all of us here at the College as well. Our campus community reflects the rich diversity of this nation and the world. Here are some resources to help our campus prepare for the weeks ahead.
Emotional Support Resources
- If you are feeling stressed or anxious, you can make free telehealth appointments for emotional or mental support at the Counseling Center (206-546-4594)
- Nov 4 & 5 – Election Hangout Sessions (sponsored by Student Life, Gender Equity Center, Multicultural Center)
- Nov 4 – Crafternoon (sponsored by Gender Equity Center)
- Nov 12 – Self-Care Workshop (hosted by the Counseling Center)
Communication Alert Reminder
- As a precaution, should there be any demonstrations in the local community that present a safety concern for any students who have been approved to come to campus, the College will send out an update via text, email, and phone through Rave Alert, our emergency messaging system
- Please take a moment to check and update your Rave contact preferences at www.shoreline.edu/connect so that you always receive the latest College alerts
Although students and employees represent a spectrum of political and ideological beliefs, we continue to be part of a shared, resilient community at Shoreline. As we go through the days and weeks ahead, there are resources and people here to support you and I encourage you to find ways to maintain your physical and mental well-being.
Respectfully,
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President
